    Who are the guitar geeks?

You might want to invest in some good headphones too. For him or both of you.

    From a diplomatic perspective

That would at least provide some explanation for it.

Most Points in League but Worst Record, UGH !

Our league is old and usually pretty well matched. We needed tiebreaks to determine 4 of the 6 playoff spots, with almost everyone in the 7-7/8-6 range. One team went 12-2. 7th of 12 in points. The beauty or curse of head-to-head. BUT one of those 6 playoff spots goes to the team on the outside looking in that has scored the most points. Mitigates extreme bad luck like your scenario.
  4. Happens all the time in lots of leagues. Didn't you know the rules? I lost 3 separate tiebreaks this season by points: Division winner (4), Wildcard (39), points team (8). Winning record and no playoffs. Them's the breaks.

    The Running QB

With a career average of 2.2 per carry. Wilson's career average is 6.1. Tebow retired as the SEC leader in dozens of passing categories. Did that make him a passing QB? And you do understand that in the NCAA, sacks or any tackle behind the line of scrimmage on a QB count as rushing attempts? The kid's frame has changed considerably since entering college. With a healthy ankle he's mobile enough to move in the pocket and even extend plays. But there's no way you can compare him with a Griffin or any of the other prototypes they've touted over the last few years. Maybe you should understand the stats or have watched the player enough to understand his game before making your call, chief. Raiders won't take him #1 either, but you've made a wonderful contribution to the discussion.

    The Running QB

Not a running QB so really doesn't fit into this discussion. That said, I doubt they waste the Carr pick on a guy with so many questions. He hasn't done a thing to help his draft stock this season. I believe he won't be even the first QB taken, with Petty/Baylor the front runner in that category.

    FSU sucks

Transparency is the Kryptonite of the NCAA. They can't take the chance that a hand picked and promoted team would lose, raising the question whether the fix has been in all along. There's a small group here that have advocated in the past for the Boise's and TCU's of the world. For myself, I've never believed that year in and out they were as strong as Alabama for example. But I do believe that the year when they pitted them against each other in the Fiesta, one was deserving of a shot at the title and would have given whatever opponent all they wanted and then some. I think they know it too, and also know that a scenario like that cripples all the crap they continue to foist on people. Out of one side of their mouths they talk about the value, competitiveness and ever improving nature of those smaller schools. Out of the other side they create new rules to give the Chosen Ones even greater advantages in recuiting via the stipend. People rail at Goodell and the NFL. They could learn lessons from the racketeering that is the NCAA. As for a playoff, I still don't know why people are so insistent on computer rankings and the like. They've already said that only 5 or 6 conferences matter. Put each champ in, add wildcards from among the winners of the remaining conferences, and have an 8 teamer. I know, god forbid that the 3rd place team from the SEC West doesn't get in despite looking so good against other SEC teams they lost to, but we'll all survive.

So you can plug in with no amp needed, choose from a selection of dozens of virtual amps/sounds, and create your own music. To me, it's the best method to advance not only individual skills, but also general music theory, a little bit of engineering, song composition and a lot more. I think Garage Band is still about $5, and the Sonic Port runs around $100. I love em.

    Kentucky Wildcats vs Philadelphia 76ers

When he comes over in 3 years (he'd be a fool to do so earlier), they'll be trying to sell people on the notion that he's the piece to build around. All the other pieces to build around will be gone or proven to be nothing special.

    The Running QB

Agree with this. When you look at Rodgers and Luck, two very successful "running" QB, you see big guys who run only after going through the progressions and finding a clear alley, or on very specifically designed run plays where they know to avoid contact if things go south. When a player has spent his entire life relying on his legs and athleticism to elevate him above the competition, it's irrational to think that he won't resort to that first and foremost just because he's in the NFL. You can preach patience all you want, but the mind and body are going to react to situations. You could see it in Manziel's brief appearance last week. People think that stuff is exciting, and it is until the QB gets killed and/or starts tossing INTs late across the middle. I think Wilson may be the rare exception, as his football IQ seem higher than the others. I attribute some of that to the fact that he played baseball, the ultimate patience sport, at a fairly high level. But I wonder when the day comes and he doesn't have the dominant defense and running game if he'll be able to make the transition.
  11. Interesting thought and one that I considered after watching them Sunday. Due to the crappy schedule they were actually the most compelling watch of the early games for me. Hoyer has been awful for weeks, against a schedule that most QB should have fattened up on. Instead, they drop Gordon into the mix. While he appears physically ready, he has made some catastrophic errors in his two weeks of play. He gave up on a pass into the end zone two weeks ago, allowing an INT by ATL that should have cost them the game. This week he made a horrible read on a 2-deep safety coverage; the announcer said correctly that a high school QB/WR would have gotten chewed out for the read Gordon made. It resulted in another of Hoyer's INTs. You may be onto something in that the offense was so precarious to begin with that force feeding the ball toward Gordon might have ruined what little cohesiveness they had. I'll be interested to see if Cameron's return changes things. But I certainly don't think that a change at QB to an even less experienced guy is the answer.
  12. Lost 3 tiebreaks for playoffs: Division: after overall, division record and head-to-head it came down to 3 teams and total points for season. I fell 4 short. Wildcard: same tiebreaks, 3 different teams, I fell 39 points short. Remaining Points team: we reward the total points team that missed playoffs. At 7-7 I lost out to 5-9 team (that I beat twice) by a total of 8 points Maybe the spread in losses should bug me more.

    Johnny Manziel

The stock video they showed during the game (the one where the guys pretend to be casual, spinning a football, smiling, whatever) has him smirking his way through that "money" thing he does with his hands. Just made me want him to succeed even more. Like RGIII he's already got a a logo and trademarks. Unlike Andrew Luck.

    Who are the guitar geeks?

I've never really checked out Rocksmith. Probably be jealous at how easy it is now to learn things that took me hours of trial and error, not to mention sacrificing my vision trying to figure out what the guitarists on MIDNIGHT SPECIAL or DON KIRSCHNER'S ROCK CONCERT were playing on sh!tty little tvs..

    Who are the guitar geeks?

The cool bass sound you hear on Dear Prudence, The End, Black Hole Sun, Moby and tons of Stones stuff is in drop D. Like I said, you can easily tune the guitar but it's hard on the neck to constantly change. The capo is a cheap and easy way for someone that wants to play around a bit but sound like they play a lot.

Hope you're right. 40+ years a fan and I can't get behind what they're doing. I'll be happy if proven wrong.

Songster is neat in that it offers rhythm track and instrumentation in addition to tab. A good tool for helping a young guitarist to learn phrasing, going beyond strumming chords. Once she starts working with it, get her a Soundport, Line 6 Audio etc that she can run through GrageBand or similar on a laptop/phone and mix her own music. The fastest way I've ever been able to learn or to teach someone else was to encourage them to lay down a rhythm track of their own design and figure out riffs off of it. Really expands confidence and understanding of the fret board. But to your problem: learn some songs in Drop D tuning. A lot of Stones, Faces etc stuff is in Drop D, with no full bar chords involved. It's a cool sound that automatically makes you sound like you can play, and all that's involved is either actually tuning the guitar to Drop D (not hard but hard on the guitar) or pick up one of these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/kyser-drop-d-capo?cntry=us&source=3WWRWXGP&gclid=CPWC4eOUqMICFQeVfgodMwMA_A&kwid=productads-plaid^82216909347-sku^361603000000000@ADL4MF-adType^PLA-device^c-adid^51870555867 No detuning involved and you're set.

IMO Wroten is just MCW Lite; a guy who if he has the ball all night and no other options can post stats. So pretty much every guard in the NBA. I'm just not that impressed with either. Now, if they were my 6-7th man I'd have a different perspective. I just can't get in line with Noel. The shot blocking/threat is great, but I don't know that it off sets the ways a good team would have to hide him in order to keep him on the floor .

Good tip on the Dunlop Crybaby. Watch Sweetwater, Guitar Center, Musicians Friend etc online. They'll deep discount some stuff through the holidays. Should be able to pick one up for a decent price.

Curious about song writing. I've always been able to put together lyrics, and always been able to come up with melodies/riffs. I just have very limited success imo in putting the two together. What kind of stuff do you write? What's your songwriting approach? I enjoy Jack White and any mention of Mike Bloomfield garners mad respect.
  21. Is that the issue? Unwilling to spend, bad decisions, combo of both?

    Kentucky Wildcats vs Philadelphia 76ers

Spurs went without Duncan and Parker and Ginobili played about a quarter. They're a tough team to bet on/against, especially against bad teams, because of the way Pop will sit players.
  23. They are, but they pale in comparison to , say, Chicago.
  24. "Never seen more people" means just that: that I have never been in a situation where I personally have seen more people taking delight in the denigration of a race. Whether that's 2, 5, 10 or 20 people you have no way of knowing. You also should brush up on the definition of stereotyping. I didn't condemn or define a whole group over the actions of one or even a few. I said just what I said; that I saw many people who delighted in the way this played out. It was in response to your multiple choice question, which didn't provide an appropriate option for me to summarize what I read in going through the thread. Never attributed it to you specifically or anyone else for that matter. If it hits too close to home...and I'm not saying it should...that's a matter for the individual to decide.
  25. I never attributed the statement to everyone. Added that it's not for me to speculate on their motives. But hey, it's FFT so let's make a clumsy attempt to trip people up with things they never said. If you're concerned about your personal motives, it' may be an issue on which you should personally reflect.
