Going to have to agree with Tiny on this one. Do you never plan to retire? Once you do/can it's called being independently wealthy. That doesn't mean you have to stop working, that means you don't have to if you don't want to. Any cash flow analysis will tell you. It's a wide range depending on a lot of factors, but, I'd say most people living normal lives within their means the number is probably around 2 million dollars, but, 500M for sure does it.

First thing I'd do is hire someone like Cerity Partners to do all the work with the cash. You need access to big bank and hundreds of accounts to get a sizable portion under FDIC insurance. Step number two is to vanish, for at least a little bit. Word will get out and you need to avoid all the friends and family coming out of the woodwork until everything is in order. I wouldn't bother taking anything besides hard drives and select personnel items. No clothes, no furniture, no vehicles, all of that crap is upgradable with that amount of cash. Finance guys can sell house and property for less than half of a percent of 700M. Who cares. Hold up in the penthouse of high end hotels until step 3. Secure new main residence. Something like this: Id want some farm land near the main residence. Maid that can serve as a chief when needed. I dont want a bunch of people but cleaning days are over and although i like to cook need someone to do it when i dont feel like it. Next step, reconnect with family and friends. Real friends are the ones concerned and want to see you. Fake are the ones asking for money/investments. Lots and lots of travel. I'd be involved in main investment decisions and active in those that become hobbies.
