What do you know about Ray Finkle?

Soccer-style kicker, graduated from Collier High June 1976, Stetson University honors graduate class of 1980, holds 2 NCAA Division One records, one for most points in a season, one for distance, former nickname "The Mule," the first and only pro-athlete ever to come out of Collier County and one hell of a model American. thinking of starting him over phil dawson at home against the cowboys this week..thoughts?

    McGahee

Anybody got any news on McGahee? It's been 5 days since they said all he was doing was running in the pool. They made it sound like he wasn't even close to practicing, but he was saying he'll be there for week 1. Since then, it's been nothing for 5 days, no news at all. Anybody seen anything?

CBS Commishes please help a brutha out

i think i know what you're asking and i think my league's rules are the same way. had this same question when we switched to their waiver process a few years ago. i think what you do it that you click on run waivers on everyday. and make sure the box that reads "free agent players always on waivers" is NOT checked. also i think you want that the waiver order is never reset. with these setting, all free agents will go on waivers once the games start on sunday (or thursday, or saturday, depending on the first game of the week). then, after the games, everybody can put in for whoever they want and then the first time waivers is run is on wednesday morning (actually, in the middle of the night, it's like at 1:40am EST, but changes by a few minutes from week to week). then, everybody becomes a free agent and people can pick up whoever then want....except for the players that were dropped when other people made their waiver pickups. those guys are on waivers and that's why you need to click the boxes that have your league running waivers everyday. i'm pretty sure this is what you want. if you don't, i suggest you do it, because it's simple and fair. we bickered about waivers/free agency for year and ever since we moved to this system, it's been hassle-free. being commish is a thank-less job, but somebody's gotta do it.

    McGahee

i fully agree with you larry david. the guy also caught over 40 balls too, so even in a PPR he was solid. it's the strange silence that is now surrounding this situation that is weird. not to hear anything on a top running back for 6 days now seems odd. he must not be around the ravens facilities at all. reporters comment on anything, if he's got a limp, what kind of brace he's wearing, anything they can and there has not been anything written about him. however, it's probably a sign that the ravens didn't go out and sign a free agent, like shaun alexander or cedric benson. that would have been a huge warning sign that this is worse than initially thought.

    Handcuffs

do you have car insurance? homeowners insurance? life insurance? if you care about something, or the loss of something would be too great for you to overcome, you take measures to protect it.

Just committed mother of all focking fock ups!

i think it would be worse if you took the wrong adrian peterson with your first round pick. that would suck.

    McNabb

mcnabb is on my do not draft list. i guess if it was the 12th round and i had a shady starter, i might take mcnabb, just based on value at that point. and if he gets hot, his household name will help skyrocket his trade value. but i will do everything in my power to avoid him this year and do not think he is a low-end QB1 or even a high-end QB2.

Just traded Steve Smith for Calvin Johnson

i wouldn't put a lot of faith in a a 33-year-old jake delhomme who's trying to become the first QB ever to come back from tommy john surgery. in my pretty standard 10 team league drafted last night, kitna was taken as a backup QB, delhomme went undrafted. and steve smith's numbers when delhomme isn't around are pretty sh!tty. steve smith is a product of the system, remember mushin muhammed's numbers the year smith missed the year with a broken leg? he was a monster. smith's #s are dependent on delhomme, and delhomme is not dependable. not a winner or a loser in this trade now, only time will tell. can't really point to either team as the clear winner.

    Please sell me on MBIII.

please define what is a "full load." Only 6 RBs had over 300 carries last year. Portis, Edge, Willie, LT, Thomas Jones and Lendale White. ONly two of those are first round picks. Hell, only 2 of those top 25 overall picks. did adrian peterson carry the "full load" last year? 238 carries to chester taylor's 157...and AP is the consensus 2nd RB off the board. besides, carrying the "full load" isn't necessarily a good thing. what happened to LJ after he carried the "full load" with 416 carries in '06? I'll tell you what happened...8 games, 158 carries, 559 yards, and 3 TDs. Those are awesome #s...you should definitely draft the guy who's already been beaten into the ground instead of the guy who's been a top 10 RB in limited action and now all of sudden is ready for his time in the spotlight. the fact that marion barber didn't have 325 carries last year is THE BEST THING ABOUT HIM THIS YEAR.
  12. MudDawgs4Life

Who are the TD vulture RBs of '08?

let me get this straight...you think that san diego is going to take ladanian tomlinson, possibly the best goalline back in the history of the NFL, out of the game in the red zone, for Jacob Hester?
  13. MudDawgs4Life

    Please sell me on MBIII.

you guys are all crazy. BARBER IS THE PICK. you don't take a WR in the first round. you don't do it. Why would you do that? you take best RB available (and that's barber) and then take Braylon/reggie wayne/fitz/colston in the 2nd if you really want to come out of the 1st 2 rounds with a WR (i would go RB again, but that's not the topic here). Moss is not gonna catch 23 tds again. 18 would be amazing, probably gonna be closer to 13-15 though (NE homer here). Is barber and wayne better than like Moss and Maroney? Or Moss and MJD? or Moss and Larry Johnson? or Moss and any 2nd round caliber back? Yes. Yes. and Yes. it's about building a roster from top to bottom NOT based on last year's stats, but based on how you think this year is going to pan out. AS far as barber vs. portis go, it's an argument that has been around all summer. it comes down to personal peference. for me, barber is the 4th highest RB on my board. TDs win championships. Say that with me one time...TDs win championships. Portis averaged 3.8 yards per carry last year, it just doesn't cut it. He's shown less of any ability to stay healthy than marion. barber runs angry. people thinks it's a bad thing that he has been tested with 300 carries, but actually, that's a good thing. fresh legs baby. sure felix jones will get touches. nfl teams run the ball 425-500 times a season, of course more than one back is gonna touch the ball. barber 300-325, jones 100-125, other RBs get 25-40. barber is on a better team, which means more scoring, which means more red zone opportunies, which means more 2nd half running to burn the clock. portis is the name. barber is the pick.

Move NYG WR Domenik Hixon up on your draft charts

ah, steve smith, gotcha, forgot about him. could have included sinorice moss if you wanted to. i think he's gonna be cut though.

clowney is on the jets. and if you mean brad smith, he's on the jets too.

    Avoid Player List

yes, but 4 of the 7 games he played in were against the Jets, Oakland, Houston, and Cleveland...four absolutely horrendous defenses last year. Ronnie's stats against those teams: 115 rushing ypg, 6.5 rpg, 70 receiving ypg, and 5 TDs Ronnie's stats in his other 3 games (skins, dallas, patriots): 47 rushing ypg, 4.3 rpg, 36 receiving ypg, and 0 TDs food for thought.
  17. MudDawgs4Life

    Avoid Player List

don't sleep on Vjax. he led the NFL in playoff receiving yards last year and apparently has looked amazing in camp. from rotoworld... Philip Rivers says that Vincent Jackson has looked "amazing" in training camp. The San Diego Union-Tribune confirms that Jackson is "catching everything" and looks to be running better than ever. Jackson is due for a nice fourth-year leap and could especially benefit early on if Antonio Gates (foot) is sidelined. With Gates hobbled in last year's postseason, Jackson totaled 18 grabs for 300 yards and two scores in the Bolts' last three games. I would draft a backup kicker before drafting ahman green.

    New FF mags surfacing and....

wow. you know nothing about fantasy football. i see no chance of a fantasy football championship in your future, you would be removed from any league i've ever been in for incompetence, we're all dumber have read this and may God have mercy on your soul.

    Benson released

benson will definitely land somewhere. denver? detroit? jets? i'm sure somebody thinks they can fix him, or is at least willing to sign him to an incentives based contract that could be worth a lot.

Anyone care to take an early stab

    1. LT - until somebody has a better season than him, he's #1 2. AP - we'll hear about his horrible QB and injury history all summer, but his explosion is unmatched, even by LT. 3. SJAX - during a six game stretch after he came back from injury he has long runs of 37, 53, 50, 54, 46, and 36..are you kidding me? 4. Addai - didn't have an amazing 2007, but on the colts, he's almost a lock for 100 and TD every week. 5. MBIII - has got the freshest legs of the group up here, 28 TDs over past 2 years and all of a sudden, no more julius jones. will be huge. 6. Westy - has never had more than 12 total TDs in a season, is getting older. the wheels will fall off at some point soon and it'll happen quickly. do you want him on your team when they do? Against my will I had him last year and he was great, but will never trust him. 7. Marshawn Lynch - vive la youth movement. wish he caught more balls, but looks like a nice, young workhouse to build a squad around. 8. Frank Gore - Mike Martz please make him into marshall faulk. look out for him getting yanked at the goalline because of fumbling problems. 9. Willis McGahee - 300 carries, 43 catches, 1450 total yards, 8 TDs. not earth shattering numbers, but will ZERO competition for touches, it's consistency you can build around. scored TDs in seven straight. 10. laurence Maroney - remember, draft not on what guys did last year, but on what you think they're going to do THIS year. Or else you're gonna take an aging portis or jamal lewis here. The upside is still there and the patriots will be more balanced this year. still young and ready for his true breakout season. NOTE: Never draft a WR or QB in the first round. Ever. And Peyton manning threw 28 TDs the year after he threw 49.

    2008 Running Backs top 10

gotta disagree about mcgahee. he hasn't played too many tough defenses this year, but he was an monster against the patriots (30 carries, 138 yards, a 30-yard TD, 4 catches for 21 yards. and @Pittsburgh he was pretty good (12 carries for 50 yards...a 4.2 ypc average...1 TD, 3 catches for 12 yards)...he would have carried the ball more if they weren't getting crushed. he was 17 for 56 and a TD on the road at san diego and didn't do much at home against Indy. other than that, he didn't play anybody good (@CIN, NYJ, ARI, @CLE, @SF, STL, @BUF, CIN, CLE). is he a top 10? pretty close...he scored in 7 straight games...don't know any other RB in the league that has done that. My top 10 in 2008: 1. AP 2. LT2 3. Addai 4. SJax (if he wasn't so injury prone and on a sketchy team, he's be #3) 5. Marion Barber III 6. Westbrook (so scary...when are the wheels gonna fall off?) 7. Willis (who ya gonna take over him? he gets the ball. period.) 8. FWP (leads the league in rushing...will get his TDs next year) 9. Marshawn Lynch (the hype machine will be in full effect in august) 10. Frank Gore (gotta give him another year in the top 10...this could be anybody though).

What is everone's thoughts on Javon Walker?

i will never have javon walker on my fantasy team again. he is done. he suffered a very bad injury, came back, was ok, now is just ruining himself. he'll never come close to playing 16 games in a season again.
  25. MudDawgs4Life

What is everone's thoughts on Javon Walker?

I'm opting to go with donte stallworth over javon walker this week. i just can't afford another week like last week - 8 plays, 0 targets, 0 catches. the way i see it is that if he showed ANYTHING last week, he might be an OK play this week, but obviously he's rushing back. i think he's a threat to leave the game at any time. i don't think he's all of a sudden going to put up 8 catches for 125 yards and a TD this week. at best he's 5-6 catches for 60 yards and maybe a short TD. it's his downside that scares me though - a big fat ugly goose egg.
