Oakland Raiders' offseason review - free agency and draft
whoisjgalt replied to t.j's topic in FFToday Board
Hopefully, now that we've got a startable OLB and a pair of good young Safties, next offseason will have fewer needs to fill. That list will contain at least the following: LDE back-up RB TE And that list may need to also include several OLine positions unless some of the young guys make significant progress. We can never have too much talent and depth on the two lines. -
At least I beat MacGregor - even with refusing to adjust my top two.

Another "need" that's less important than several others. I'd rather live without fixing that position than with most of the holes that did get help. -

From FanBall: So Simms is done at LT. RT or a move inside or a cut is the follow-up question. -
Done - grassyass.

You're listed as "being there", but you haven't posted. Ready to pick?

Oakland Raiders' offseason review - free agency and draft

Yeah, when I say "3-4-4" it's the "3-4" but then I was just keeping it consistant by listing the counts at all three levels of the D. Our DE's don't have the size to play the 3-4 (except Bobby Hamilton, but his position should be at home or rather than DE). So it'll be the 4-3. I imagine that the three LB's will have to be Clark, Morrison, and Howard unless someone who can start at OLB steps up out of nowhere. -

C. poor run-blocking This also needs to be addressed by grabbing a FB. We discussed a couple undrafted guys at the end of the draft yesterday and they need to sign a couple of those guys. (I haven't checked yet to see if they've been signed elsewhere or even by the Raiders.) G. poor tackling This was partly due to the 4-2-5 allignment. The "5" guys in the secondary weren't drafted to be good tacklers and lived up to that. Playing a 4-3-4 (or even a 3-4-4 as has been rumored some) ought to at least get some better tackling on the field by compromising speed. "Ought" to. We'll see. I. lack of versatility at RB I'd hope that some June cut or if Stephen Davis is healthy enough to play (and wants to play) could address this. The next RB is needed, but waiting 'til next year is alright with so many other problems. I'd rather they go cheap on this issue and keep cap room for more important moves next offseason. But that's just me. -
Naturally, Wright was "WTF" about dropping from the 2nd to the 7th. But when the Dolphins grabbed him, they told him he's got a shoulder injury that'll require surgery. He wasn't aware of that injury. story here

The other teams keep stealing the least valuable guy from us. -

If those stats are legit (gotta assume that they are) then the height and speed may make him translate to this level much better than a guy like David Kircus who also had gaudy stats against a lower level of competition. At least he ought to be a special teams guy, including handling returns. -

I'm no expert on the position, but something about Brandon Jones (Purdue) interests me: With the hope that Coach Shell can impact the blocking comments. All the others are similar in that blocking isn't what it should be. Matt Bernstein might be an exception, but he's also slower than his linemen. Yet Bernstein might be more ready to play blocking back right now. So, dunno. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This guy seems to be an even better choice than the guys I listed above. So I'll say Naufahu Tahi (BYU). -

He's taller and weighs less than Ngata while being just a bit quicker. Also, he wouldn't have been called on to start - just rotate in when someone bigger get tired. -

I was when he came off the board right after our pick. Still, Rod Wright could be Mr. Irrelevant. Or the fullback. I  for either of those. -
I'll list Nance again. I'd heard that Big Ben was pushing the Steelers to grab him. Rodrique Wright, the DT from the champs, remains available too. I was going to also say Todd Watkins, but the Cardinals just grabbed him. Freddie Roach at LB is the last one I'll list.

As long as pretty good talent is available at DT, I'd still like to see it addressed. With Harris and Watson gone since the Bing selection, maybe that "pretty good talent" comment no longer applies. Rodrique Wright remains available, so I'd like to see him picked in the 6th. Jonathan Lewis was also rated decently. Otherwise, I'd like to see a 7th used on the biggest guy available and then see if some coaching up can make him into a player. I also wouldn't mind a FB. Zach Crockett is no longer affordable. I can live with Bing - he's prolly one of the best SS's that was available in this draft and if they feel a need to make a OLB out of him then there's a need there too. Good pick in the 4th, considering. But Sapp will be too expensive to keep beyond this season and Washington is already gone - which is why we mentioned Ngata in the 1st. -

Bing is 6'2" and 227 with a 4.53 40'. He's got the height to be able to add the extra weight, I have to hope. Maybe not quick enough to play much safety, so OLB could make some sense. Still, the DT position needs help. -

Then take a guy like Skyler Green who's speedier and more talented in the return game and who could have been gotten with one of those 6th's or 7th's.
