Just to cut off some of the narratives. Yes Maduro was a disaster for Venezuela, but we're not good at nation building and it shouldn't be our goal. We don't know who replaces him and if it will be better. This looks pretty much like pure oil theft to benefit trump and his people.

Chávez rewrote the constitution in 1999 to increase presidential power. He packed the Supreme Court with loyalists and gradually dismantled the "checks and balances" that keep a leader in line. In 2003, he fired 18,000 experienced employees from the state oil company (PDVSA) and replaced them with political loyalists. In 2018, Nicolás Maduro launched the Petro (PTR), claiming it was the world’s first state-backed cryptocurrency, supposedly pegged to the value of a barrel of Venezuelan oil.
