First, it's not the same starter as in a regular engine. Second, restarts on a warm engine represent a fraction of the wear compared to a cold start. So early wear is a non-issue. Premature engine wear is also not an issue because these engines have oil retaining bearings, so restart lube isn't an issue. What the carmakers are discovering is that, even though AGM batteries are designed to handle many more discharge/charge cycles than a flooded battery, they're not lasting as long as projected. They're twice the price of a flooded battery, so you should factor that into to your projected gas cost saving. Your worries about starters is unfounded. Idiot.

BS. Most people are leaving CA, NY, NJ primarily due to cost, primarily housing and taxes. This has been repeated in multiple polls and studies in recent years. Another reason is the change in work climate, primarily WFH. You might argue that liberal policies cause high taxes, fine. High housing cost is a function of supply and demand. liberal policies cause low supply? Maybe, there is also a high demand because people have for a long time wanted to live in these states.

We've donated a bunch but still have some. But I've literally sat on the couch, wanted to watch a movie, and spent $5 to stream the movie instead of getting up and finding the disc, putting it in, switching inputs, finding the other remote, going through the menu, etc.

As was already stated the battery and starter are built for the extra load. And yes batteries can still harm the environment if not disposed of correctly, which goes for all cars, not just the ones you don't like.
