  1. Listen to this man.. he nails it.

    NO VETO. NO VOTE.

First of all, assuming that this is a standard re-draft league, this trade between two 2-6 teams is not so imbalanced as to cause a veto. I cannot even imagine collusion between two 2-6 teams. Without seeing both lineups before the trade, I can easily guess that the team that traded for the two receivers was weak at WR, and the team that got S Jax could use the stud RB. If that is at all the case, why would you even consider a veto (no i don't care to see their line-ups).

    - even if the trade doesn't appear to you to help either team, in their minds they each probably believe they came out ahead).

At any rate, while you or I might not do the trade ourselves, both Breaston and Royal have been putting up great numbers and S Jax has been injured. I CAN see a possibility that the Royal/Breaston owner might actually 'come out ahead' in this trade. In no way will the whole league be 'compromized' if this trade goes through.

It is not your job as commish to be the 'decider' as to whether or not a trade is fair because whether or not a trade is 'fair is both irrelevant and subjective; not is it your job to protect stupid owners from thier own bad trades.

    NO VETO!

  2. I kinda like this idea (we currently just do reverse order of the standings each week)

Do you expand the rosters? Just would hate to use my waiver priority for a bye week kicker/TE/Defense. But would hate to have to take a 0 as well.

What do you think of expanding the roster by 3 spots, however you must carry at least 2 DST, 2 TE, and 2 Kickers. Currently we dont have any roster resitrcition as far as position goes.

That way, you get the added roster room, but the waiver pool for RB/WR/QB remains the same size.

we do not expand the roster. WW runs wed through sunday. all players are FA once they clear ww and are free to be picked up.

  3. I was wondering what people tend to use for the waiver wire txns. I am a big follower of the revolving door system where the ww order does not reset to worst to best on a weekly basis? I set the ww order once at the beginning of the season (reverse order of draft) and once you make a WW move, you go to the back of the line and you only move up once people ahead of you make a WW txn and you dont

dont you think that the bad team gets too much advantage?

  5. Who will have the better year. Bruce or Mushin. Bruce in Martz's offense or Mushin back with carolina. With Smith suspended for the first two games, I can see mush putting up relatively good numbers. What are your thoughts?

i say Bruce. Having watched moose for the last 3 years, i dont see him any more than a ok WR3.

  6. Roster spots are tight in our league so we have a few guys who do the same thing with defenses/kickers. I am a MAJOR abuser of this rule when it comes to kickers. Personally, i think it is good GMing on my part. In our league, once someone is cut, they are on the waiver wire for 24 hours before becoming a free agent. I wait until saturday afternoon to acquire my kicker.

    IMO this allows me;

more flexibility as i seek trades during the week(a bird in my hand to promote if i trade my top talent)

a little extra time to gain information before i cut someone (injuries,etc..)

cokkblocking by taking a player off the market (whoever i do cut saturday cannot be acquired by another team until after sundays game due to the 24 hour waiver wire period)

now a couple years ago my opponent got crafty and i got caught laxing. he went in on saturday and picked up every FA kicker and then cut them, one by one. That meant i could not claim any of them until after their games sunday. This seemed a bullsh!t technicality to me, going against the spirit of the rule.

Rather than cry, i assumed responsibility. i had plenty of time to acquire a kicker before he did that and knew that the possibility of someone doing that to me existed. In a weird way, i kind of respected it[better GMing vs. good GMing and i lost]. Lesson learned.

On a side note, the funny thing to me was that even after all those moves i still got the kicker i was targeting all week. Gramatica was doing a one week fill in for Vinateri on the Colts that week and my opponent was unaware Adam was injured. The bastard only brought me 2 extra points though,so the joke was on me.

Anyways, both of us laugh and kid about the gamesmanship, but we both sleep with one eye open too. Your commish should not cry collusion, he should cry touche'

This is interesting as the very same thing happend to in my league. After a league vote it was determined that this was not in the spirit of the games and owners were allowed to pick up any of the players that were put into ww by a pickup/drop method. To prevent this scenario this season, we implemented a rule that if a player was pickeup and dropped within the same week, they will become FA immediately. This will force the person that is trying to block another player to actually use up more spots on his team and risk losing valuable backup. And if he still wants to block another team, then he is most likely limited in blocking one or two players and not the entire FA pool.

  8. Nice work.

I can't wait...  :overhead:

I wish i could say the same. I was really looking forward in seeing the progress grossman has made after his full season. But I am not sure if he has made any. it looked like he went from a gun slinger to steve walsh aka dump off specialist. I just dont see how you threw the dump off pass on 7 on 7 drills over and over. And still have problems locking into a reciever.

What worries me as a fan is that we might have a serious qb controversy in our hands and sexy rexy could be benched around week 4....

As much as i like orton, i think griese should get the nod if grossman is benched. IF they are out of it by week 8 or 10, then I would just play orton for the rest of the season to see what he has got. But they might go to back to grossman since he is in a contract year.

  9. The bears had their family night last night so here is my take on bears practice…

Defense – looked okay. Dropped a couple of picks of badly thrown balls but there weren’t going full go so it was hard to gauge them.

Benson – looked okay. Didn’t do anything special. Caught a bunch release passes out of the back field. He motioned a few times to the slot receiver position in 7 on 7 drilles.

Olsen – he seemed fine in the blocking drills. Made a really nice post pattern catch from grossman about 30 yards down field. He had nice separation from the defender. I didn’t see him drop any balls in the individual drills.

Hester – looked as fast as last year. Looked good during the return drills. Lined up as wr quite a bit. He didn’t catch anything that I saw during the simulated game practices but during the individual drills and 7 on 7 he looked good and caught everything that came his way.

Grossman. -- looked good on the individual drills but very disappointing in the 7 on 7 and game simulated practices. I would say 75 percent of his passes were to the rb’s on the check down. He did have one nice pass 30 yards down field to olsen. I only saw a hand full at most of passes downfield. From him. Everything seemed to be 5 yards and shorter. All the long passes that he threw were incomplete except for the olsen one.

In the 2 min drill he didn’t look good at all. The last 30 seconds he locked into Bradley and went to him 3 straight times. All three incompletes. When grossman rolled out of the pocket, he was locked to one receiver… his eyes were not down field for any other options.

Griese – looked good on the individual drills. He didn’t look good on the 7 on 7 drilles as he had a few badly over thrown passes. But at least he was taking the ball downfield. Only a couple of check down passes. Everyting else was down the seam down field. He connected on a few down field passes. Griese attempted one pass to hester which was a 7 yard in pattern that he threw about 5 yards over hesters head.

Orton – looked really good. He has lost a lot of weight it looks like. He looked good on 7 on 7 drills and individual drills. But didn’t partake on the game simulated passes and 2 minute drill.

Haas WR 83. looked good on individual drills. Caught everything. Very good speed and quickness.

Marshall wr 86. no dropps in drills. Very quick.. maybe a hair slower than hester. Candidate for practice squad?

Berrian – looked good. Quick as last year. Looked good in individual drills. Caught everything but one pass that came his way. I cant tell if that one drop the ball was tipped or not. But hit him in both hands and was a bang bang play.

    Moose – didn’t practice.

Wolfe - looked decent on individual drills. Didn’t see any emphasis on him during the team practices.

  10. We're trying to figure out a way to make division fair in my league, so I'm looking for some replies of how you're leagues are set up.

Currently we have 12 teams, 2 divisions. We randomly drew names to figure out who goes in what division. The problem came about because the drawing led to the 4 best teams being in the same division. In our current set up, you play everyone in your division twice, and then randomly play 3 teams from the other division. Top 2 teams from each division go to the playoffs with 2 wildcards (best overall records).

It seems decent, but we have 2 rookies in our league this year and they both ended up in the same division. It doesn't seem balanced that I may not get to play either of the 2 rookies since they aren't in my division.

Is this how most leagues are set up? Or is there a better way?

Ok.. here is how you do it.

first break it up into 3 divisions. play everyone in your division twice and everybody else once. on a 17 week schedule. or you will miss one teamif you go 16 game.

2nd. break down the division based on the draft order since you are a redraft league and the draft order is determined randomly. here is an example

people drafting in slots 1,6,7,12 are int he same div, same for 2,5,8,11 and 3,4,9,10 in the other divisions.

And if two strong owners still fall in the same division... TOUGH... MAN UP!!!!

  11. take sjax, then a stud WR in 2. grab your other RB in 3. good luck!

Sjax seems to be the pick everyone is going with. and I am okay with that. round 2 or 3, I just see me getting the bottom tier 2 rb and top of tier 2 WR.

Anybody actually have their draft this year already? what did the guy with the #2 pick endup with overall?

  12. Well, what percentage are you going to use to determine the winner of the poll?

Or is this the first of a string of never ending polls? :overhead:

In all seriousness, 51% is fine.

    If not, go with 2/3.

haha.. good question.... I would say 2/3

    anybody else?

  13. Youre a retarded question FARVE. My logic behind this question is 2-fold:

    1. To gauge people to see if they thought The Packers as a team was close enough to think about winning a SB while Favre is still there. He is probably only there for 2-3 more years tops. So to think about becoming a legit championship contender, they would most likely have to go out and get some established veterans to help Favre....if they rebuild through the draft, they are effectively wasting Favre's last few years because once those players develop into championship-calibar players, Favre will be done.

So should they concentrate on winning with Favre or build for the future?? (should have titled the thread this)

    2. Is Favre good enough still to take them there. I don't care what people say about Trent Dilfer, this Packers' team WILL NOT be the 2000 Ravens around him. That bing said, is Favre good enough to take a good but not dominant team to the championship.

This is the issue I have with some Packer fans. They totally overestimate how good Favre still is. This is furthered by the fact that the media is all over Favre's jock. I don't disagree that Favre is one of the 3-5 best QBs to ever play this game...but some Packer fans have trouble conceding to the FACT that Favre is not what he once was compared to the rest of the league. I think part of why he is still playing is to stick around long enough to break all of Marino's records.

The Packers are doing the right thing by not going after overpriced yet established veteran free agents. By rebuilding through the draft, they are moving towards winning. And while Packers fans will angrily and wrongly disagree, those plans will not include Favre. With a young and developing defense, the Packers are in the beginning stages of becoming younger on offense.

 didnt catch this post before my last one, but yes finally some intelligent cheeseheads

I am not sure how i am the retarded one when you basically repeated what I was saying. and noted that you should have titled the thread differently.

my point of the retardedness was that your question was too open ended and not specific enough.

I wasnt disagreeing with your point of view but rather the way the question was presented.

  14. A fair point - I never said it was an exact science - jst speaking from my personal experience. Two leagues, one was a PPR league, the other not.

In both leagues, the RB I could have taken with that second pick indeed would have helped me quite a bit. Immediately following the season, I looked back for my planning for this year and as described, I could have had a viable RB2 in the 2nd round, and not experienced significant dropoff in with the WR I would have taken in the 3rd.

In the case of the non-ppr league, I took Fitz in the second and could have had Boldin in the 3rd had I taken a RB2 in the 2nd. In that case I would have fared better.

Look - I already conceded that luck has a lot to do with it, but the common theme in both leagues was that I found myself "chasing RBs" all year trying to fill in for my BYE weeks and get production out of the RB2 position, whereas in seasons I've take 3 RBs in the 1st 3 rounds I never had that problem. In the past I've gone RB-Rb-RB only to see my RB2 and RB3 outperform my RB1 - but it didn't matter. what mattered is that out of the 3 I had two guys I could plug and play and not stress it. With the number of WRs in the league, it was always easy to find breakout players in the mid-rounds, and to pick up surprise players mid season.

So as I said - it's not an exact science. But in the years I've been playing FFB, the best seasons I've had have been going with stud RB theory, mixed with ADP & VBD, as well as taking the needs of other teams into consideration. It's all such a crapshoot - I figure taking 3 RBs straight is a good way of hedging your bets and playing the odds that you'll hit on 2 of them.

And one other thing to consider....since RBs are indeed the rarest position to get true "stud" production out of, if you get REALLY lucky and all 3 of the RBs you took in those first 3 rounds hit, you can then deal one for a top WR to the team that went RB-WR-WR and missed with his RB2 and RB3 selections. You'll be dealing from a position of strength to address a position of weakness. Supply & demand applies to trades as well, and if you're the guy with an extra 1000/10 RB to deal, you will be able to get someone's 2nd round WR for your 3rd round RB in many instances.

Each to his own, but this is certainly food for thought.

  15. This is really a retarded question. no one qb can take a team to SB if the rest of the team is not ready. so there are three posssible questions

    1) are the packers sb contenders...?

A- not a packer fan, but I dont think they are yet.

    2) is Farve a QB thats capable of winning the Sb with the right team around him

A- ABSOLUTLEY. (and i am a bear fan.)

yea and i dont wanna hear crap.. you all know if the bears had farve under center in sb instead of sexy rexy we most likely would have won.

    3) Is farve the right QB for the packers right now

    A) this is debateable.... i can see points for either side.

  16. For many years I've been a proponent of stud RB theory, often taking 3 in my 1st 4 picks. Occasionally taking 3 in a row with 1-2-3 picks.

Last year I jumped the bandwagon, and took a stud WR with my 2nd pick, then RB 3rd, then WR 4th and pulled a couple of scraps in the mid rounds.

As it turned out, I didn't make the playoffs in the 2 leagues I did this in. While the WR worked out well, the RBs were a total crapshoot from week to week. When the WRs were inconsistent, I didn't have 2 RBs to plug in that could get me the steady points that such a position generates.

Thus the dropoff from the stud RB I could have taken in the 2nd round was simply not worth the boost I got for the WR I did take over the next WR I could have had in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

There's so many WRs and so few RBs. I will be returning to stud RB this year, and may go RB-RB-RB in ever league as a result. I never want to spend another year stressing week to week over who I'm going to line up at RB2. Not with so many WRs out there to be had in the mid rounds.

Even if you get really lucky and nab the best WR (which is hardly a guarentee, since Boldin outperformed Fitz from an ADP of 1.5 rounds later, etc) then you still have to get really, really lucky and hope that a decent RB falls to you in the 3rd.

The one exception I would make is that if you have a top 3 pick it might make more sense to take a WR in the 2nd, then a RB on the turn in the 3rd. But then if you had a top 3 pick, you've got a true stud already and can tollerate more risk. If you're picking at the bottom of the draft, say 9-12, then you are commiting FFB suicide taking a WR in the 2nd, because you'll then have a crapload of picks between 2 & 3 and the chances of landing a decent RB2 decrease significantly.

    My $.02

Not that i necessarily agree to disagree but I think there is a little more info needed here. lets hypothtically say that you could go back and take the rb that you bypassed in rd 2. Would you have fared better, same or worst? And dont go back and pick the best rb that was available at that point. the only fair comparison would be for you to say that If i had not taken X wr, I would have taken Y rb, and if we do data comparison for those two players, only then we can understand if you missing the playoff was due to a bad 2nd round pick of wr instead of rb.

  17. I have the 1.01 and I can't see taking Peterson when he's in a rbbc with Chester Taylor. Plan B was CJ but now he's the 1a wr next to Roy Williams in Detroit. Lynch is the undisputed starter in Buffalo. Chances are I'm taking Lynch and not waiting for the Minny and Detroit situations to pan out. What a difference a day makes.

yea... ahhuhhh.. you do that matt millen.. ehem.. i mean rocket... ya ya.. he is the 1.01 pick.. yea. take him.. go for it

and for all the others that are sane, for your dynasty draft, you choose between russel/johnson/peterson.

  18. did i miss the QB selection? where is it listed? :argue:

I thought the olsen pick was very solid. but I was very disappointed when they traded down on the 2nd rd. I think CB from Arkansas "houston" or any of the USC wr's jarrett or smith would have been a great pick for the bears. They got great value for their 2nd rd pick, but I still wish they had stuck with their pick and picked up one of those players.
