Waiver Wire Gems - Week 8 edition

Calico??? Please............. where do u get ur info??? They still got Kinney and Troupe... they are the ONLY viable options for McNair/Volek at this point! BAD INFO = CALICO!!! My info comes from noticing that Greg Jones and Drew Bennet are both injured and likely out for the upcoming game. I imagine the Titatns will attempt to throw the ball to a wide-out over the course of the game (hmmmm.... tough call). Who else is going to catch the ball near the sidelines? You think the tight ends are going to get all the passing yards? Remember that Calico was a pre-season sleeper that flopped. He does have some talent, albeit it hasn't been witnessed so far. Plus, we're talking about waiver-wire fodder here. It's not like I'm saying trade your no. 2 rb for him. Relax. Yeah, good post on Calico. A lot of these posts contain players that were picked up off the WW last week, or even the week before, or guys that were never even on the WW in 10+ team leagues, so it is nice that someone at least put some thought into why a realistic WW player might be a good play this week. I picked up Chris Simms myself and I am starting him. I have Bulger who is out, and Hasselbeck as my back-up who is on a bye. The only thing left on the WW was Dilfer and Gus. The 49er's atrocius pass D made the decision for me. I would be happy with 200 yards and a TD, but I think Simms will be allowed to test this crappy secondary and throw for a couple of scores, especially with Caddy still nursing an injury. I look for Pittman to play the majority of the snaps and he is better utilized in the passing game anyway, so I look for Gruden to attack early and often. I could be wrong, but Gruden has never been a shy one.

2006 NFL Mock Draft Updated 10/19/05

I'll speak about Tye since I've seen all his games... He's fast, really fast. In fact, he's the fastest guy in college football and he won the 100 meter track championship last year. He's been clocked at 4.19 for whatever that's worth. Anyway, he started his Clemson career at RB, but was moved to CB his sophmore season because it was a more pressing team issue. He made great strides and got better with every game his first year at CB. Last year, he was the best cover corner on the team... better than Justin Miller who was picked by the Jets in the past draft. Tye didn't pick any passes last year, but they really didn't throw at him. He's been very good this year and I expect his stock to go up even more. His size is his only real downside. They list him at 5'10'', but I think that's a little off. He's really closer to 5'8'' probably and was dominated by Calvin Johnson last year. He'll have a hard time covering the 6'4'' WRs, but could easily be a shutdown corner for anyone 6'2'' and under. If I remember right, Ginn was only 17 when he was accomplishing these feats. I think he is running track for OSU this year as well. Anyway, I am not saying you are lying, but, is your boy faster than this? This is from Clemson Tigers website: 10.51 in the 100 meter, Ginn 10.5....it appears they are pretty well even. Hill ran a 10.29 in college as a Redshirt Junior. Neither report says anything about their times' being wind-aided. I hear Ginn is running track this year, so we will see what kind of speed he has. Regardless, these two have got to be the fastest in college football.
