Guess we can't go back and reinterpret Bob Dylan lyrics, Maya Angelou poetry or Van Gogh paintings because folks at the time didn't understand or appreciate their meaning. Great art often is not fully understood in the moment but undergoes years, decades and even centuries of analysis, interpretation and paradigm shift. I wouldn't call that Super Bowl performance great art, but it did rise to the level of taking some time to interpret and understand, and more often than not it takes discussion for those who didn't get it the first time to experience intellectual growth and a better understanding. Critics brutally criticized pretty much every Led Zeppelin album, but time has proven them embarrassingly wrong. Great art misunderstood in the beginning is the best art. Van Gogh's work didn't rise to masterpiece level until well after his death.

The angry middle-aged white men here can't understand that this is what's popular right now, and that the performance was full of symbolism, and I love how Trump was there for it. It will go down as one of the greatest SB halftime performances ever, and as much as MAGAs are feeling their oats right now, they better enjoy it while they can. As long as we can hold on to democracy until midterms, I think we're good.
