  1. I still think you should go RB unless you can trade down and acquire more RB depth and still get Davis, which is quite unlikely at your spot and the fact Davis hasn't made it past 1.06 in most rookie drafts. LJ and Alexander is an awesome backfield, but you don't have much in terms of starters after them. This means one injury and your team goes from being dominant to being a borderline playoff contender.

Personally, I like Addai's situation best this year, but I think DeAngelo Williams is the most talent back of the bunch. At this stage it's not a bad decision either way.

Re-draft, I'd go Addai. Dynasty, I think Williams is a special back and would have been the no-question #1 RB in this class if Bush didn't come out early.

If John Fox was in on the selection of Williams that should send a nice message to you. Williams isn't the blocker that Addai is, but they are both good receivers. Williams has better vision and surprising power. Williams reminds me of Tony Dorsett. Addai reminds me of a mix between Chris Brown and Edgerrin James.

TE's like Davis are tough to come across, but I think your best bet at maintaining dominance is to keep adding promising RBs to your stable.

Thanks, Wildman, for the time and the thoughts. I've only had the guy with the 1.05 pick approach me about moving up. He is in my division and had only 1 win last year. He can only really offer me his 1.05 (I have his 2nd rounder already) and one of his older WRs - Galloway, Glenn, or Moulds), which would give me depth there, since I just traded Stallworth to get the 1.04, and would leave me with either LenDale or VDavis as my choices. There are only a few teams not afraid to trade, and I've already guaged their interests.

I hear what you're saying as far as simple comparisons are concerned. I liked Dorsett's game. I like Addai, but he doesn't look as fluid in the hips as Williams, or Edge for that matter. So, I am looking for Williams first and then Addai, but the thought of taking Davis is always looming, especially for a fellow Terp, like myself. Let it be known, however, that I always bet with my wallet and not my loyalties - well, hardly ever, at least.

    Thanks again, brother!

  2. I'm hoping to get some advice on who I should pick with the 1.04 rookie draft. 4pts per pass TD; 6 pts for the rest; .1 pts per 10 yards, bonus for 40, 60, and 80 yarders; 12 team, 24 man rosters.

Bush will go #1. Who will go at #2 is a question. If Maroney is there at #3, he'll be taken by the Dillon owner. So, I will have to choose from one of DeAngelo Williams, Joseph Addai, or Vernon Davis....for the time being at least.

I have the luxury of RB depth, so I can either be patient and wait for one of the young RBs to get his chance, or I can trade the RB. They are popular. Or, with some real questions at TE, Davis would make sense. But, having a young RB is more valuable, Shaun Alexander ain't getting any younger, or I could trade one of my RBs for other pieces. BTW, I had the highest scoring team in the league last year with those TEs.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

  3. While that is all true, Skins1967, if I am looking for a fantasy QB, Volek has experinced success and has the chance to be the unquestioned starter for his team. That makes him more valuable. Not to mention, I think the overall talent level at the skill positions in much better in Tenn than the on Jets. I like Ramsey, but not this year.

  4. JJones is getting too much undeserved pub. In his defense, it's been awhile since I've seen an RB explode thru a hole like he does. But, then he wants to straight up deck a LB and gets crushed. Take a look at a guy like Shaun Alexander, Laurence Maroney, or Warrick Dunn. They all run thru the middle, but none take direct hits like JJ tries to. He's talented, but I think we've seen all we're gonna from him - until he learns more of the nuiances and self preservation. Not to mention, they got Barber.

I'm a Ravens homer and we all were hoping that GM Ozzie would sign Chester long term. The kid can catch, run, and block. He works hard and doesn't complain. I like to take chances when drafting and him and the Vikes have all the things I like to consider: 1) new owner. Zygi will want to show a new direction and will spend money to make a winner; 2) a new coach with a good pedigree. Childress has experience directing a successful offense; 3) offensive line talent. Mount McKinnie and Hutcheson. 'Nuff said; 4) knows how to use the player. Chester is a tougher version of Westbrook. He won't break in game 8, but can catch, run outside, run inside, block, and be a good teammate. He wants a chance to be the guy and won't let you down.

Moore is a Walmart veresion of Chester and Fason didn't show much at Florida or last season. Both are the previous admin's guys too. There is enough talent in Minn, but not enough to make Chester a 3rd or 4th option. He's this year's Lamont - 1200 yards rushing, 500 catching, 10 total TDs.

One more thing from a Baltimoron: the biggest offseason loss we've had in the last 5 years is Phil Savage going to the Brownies. He picked Taylor. Everyone Savage touches, turns to gold - with the exception of Travis Taylor. But, I blame Spurrier for that. Take Chester on the wrap around and watch him go!

As for McGahee, at least he's the unchallenged #1 RB. 1300 yards ain't what is used to be, but you know he'll get the rock.

Same for Droughns. I like anything Savage touches, so I'd make sure to take Harrison with Droughns. The line has talent. The WRs are talented. The QB will get better. Droughns won't see stacked lines this year as much. He'll be a solid #2, especially a bit later in the 2nd round.

  5. Once Brees gets accustomed to the surroundings, players, and playcalling, he should be a fine QB. I'd take shot at him in maybe 8th after you get 3 RBs, 3WRs, and a QB1. Watch out for him in the 2nd half of the season. Payton runs a good offense, unless you ask Fassel, and they have a ton of talent at every postion. Not to mention, the Aint's D will leave Brees with a lot of chances to toss the rock to the likes of Horn, Stallworth, Henderson, Haas, Duece, and of course, some Bush. His arm was already not as strong as some might like, so working indoors at least 9 games a year (Atlanta is the other game) will be beneficial. He's essentially on a one-year deal, so he's not gonna risk coming back too early. Risk of injury is inherent to everyone in the game, so, if he's good enough to be out there, I won't worry about his shouler. Any freak thing could happen, although his chances may be higher because of a defender hitting his arm, but he could get Culpeppered just as easily. I like him, in the 2nd half of the year even better. You might even get a Kurt Warner in the 7th and Brees afterwards - Warner should be hitting the IR as Brees is ready to start tossing TDs.

  6. No doubt that is all true fellas. Manning in the mid-to late-first round would be tough to pass up. In standard scoring league your RB would have to get 2,000 total yards and 35 TDs to equal Manning's output. I am among the believers, in general, of stacking up on RBs early. A guy in one of my leagues has Peyton as his one keeper. He gets drunk before/during/after the draft, does little research, and usually isn't paying attention, yet he gets far in the playoffs every year on Manning's back. The guy basically trades the next year's picks early in the season, gets a Tiki and a Hines Ward or TO, and then rides them all the way. He has horrible picks the next draft, but then just trades away the subsequent year's picks and is back in the playoffs again and again. I might be re-thinking taking Manning in a league in which TD passes are 6 pts each. It's too much production to pass up. Then, you can swipe a solid RB on the way around and you're solid. If you have a plan in place, then you can be fine. Someone is always looking to make a deal.

  7. I'd take Volek. 1) Once McNair is gone, Volek will have a longer leash with no real competition (Young should sit most of the year). 2) He's been in Chow's system for a few years now. 3) He has had the chance to create a relationship with his WRs since he's been there a few years. 4) His WRs, TEs, and RBs are all superior to what the J-E-T-S have. 4) He's done before, and he done it well.

If you are looking from a dynasty p.o.v., I'd look somewhere else for a prospect.

    Good luck!

  8. I'm in three and they are all different. One is a 16-team, eight keeper, PPR league with explosive bonus scoring. Lamar Smith and his 7 TDs carried me to 2nd place three seasons ago with Sricky Icky Ricky and Bledsoe. Another is a 1-keeper, 10-team basic scoring league. And the third is a 12-team, 24 roster dynasty league. I do enough research overall to be able to look at each league in the appropriate way and it allows me to look at each player differently. So, I never really root against myself because if one guys blows up in one league, it doesn't neccessarily translate into blowupshooation in the other leagues. Keeps an interesting twist on it too. So, maybe if there is a way to get into different scoring leagues, that can keep each league fresh and in need of different perspective.

  9. If you have any thoughts on these guys please feel free to post:

Ron Dayne- Can he unseat Tatum Bell?

I don't think it's question of can he unseat him because, until Shanny puts another high draft pick into another RB, these are the guys he's gonna roll with. I think it comes down to how many more carries will one get over the other. Unfortunately, if you get one, you might have to reach to get the other and then decide every week which one will get the TDs. Look for Bell to get 10-12 touches per game and for Dayne to either prove he can handle the rest and, if not, for Shanny to start giving the carries to the next guy - Cobbs? It's maddening at any rate, to choose which guy will be the producer each week. Someone will, but who?

Fred Taylor- Strictly a backup on every fantasy roster?

Frauddy is fine for a bye week fill in or if your main guy has a tough matchup, but make sure to get Greg Jones when Freddy starts to break down - weak 1? Since starting RBs are a premium, I like to look for any one before I start getting into the more serious RBBCs - like Denver. At least you know that if Fred's healthy, he'll get the rock. Guessing when he'll get hurt? That's another story.

Marion Barber- Anyone like him better than JJ?

I like him better, on the Cowpolks at least, because 1) his pops played NFL, which Parcells will appreciate 2) he hasn't had the injury bug that JJ has had. This might me JJ's last chance to get his 280+ carries, or look for Barber to be #1 next season. For this year, it's a toss up. JJ will be given the benefit of the doubt and the first crack at toting the rock, with a smattering of Barber judisciously sprinkled in for good measure. They might have similar stats at the end of year, but which one gets the call week-to-week is a huge question, of which, the answer cannot be easily predicted.

Ahman Green- Will Gado see the field if Ahman is healthy?

Stay away from GB. Take Gado with a late, late round pick and laugh if some sucker reaches for him. GB'S defense will eventually be good, but not this year. Any GB RB will get 10-12 carries in the 1st half, while they are still within reach. It'll be Favre's game in the 2nd half.

    Priest Holmes- TD ######? Retire?

LJ will be the man regardless. If you got LJ, take the Priest if you can. If not, spend a pick of better value elsewhere.

    William Green- #2 behind Droughnes?

All 3 Cleveland RBs are garbage. But, at least Droughns will get 320 carries. I have two of the RBs. Great. Grand. Wonderful.

Lee Suggs- Does he stay in Cleveland with Droughnes off the field problems?

Droughns will play. No question there. And he will get the ball. Jerome Harrison is a Savage/Crennel draft pick. Look at him instead.

    Santonio Holmes- A good keeper?

Depends on how many keepers you have. In a dynasty, I would love to get this cat. He plays very hard and has very good skill. Pitt is actually a great destination for him. Cowher will slowly open up the offense, especially since 1) the RB corps isn't as strong as it once could be considered 2) Big Ben is getting better every day. Look for them to become the Steelers of 2003 and toss the ball more. Also, he gets to learn from Hines and not be the focal point until he's needed. He can be a 1100 yard 8-10 TD guy in a few years. Patience on this guy, young grasshoopper.

David Givens- Better than Drew Bennett?

When in doubt, follow the money. Tenn is a mess, with 20 WRs on the roster, no 0-line, but someone has to catch the ball. Look for Givens and the TEs the benefit the most.

Reggie Brown- Is he the #1 in Philly?

He is. What does that mean statistically is the question. He can be a nice #3 fastasy WR this year, with potential to get better. He's no game breaker, but he could become a solid #2 fantasy WR. I like him, because I like McNabb and Brown's confidence.

Koren Robinson- Are any of you convinced that he can play?

Yes. Take him as a #3 and watch him be better than that. He was very good at NC St, and that one good year with the Shehawks. He is sober now, which makes one of us, so he should be good to go.

Moose Muhammid- Can he be a good #3 fantasy WR?

Yes. He is a player. Bearsch didn't spend all that money on him to block. He'll be in the game plan more since if Grossman goes down, Grieseball will be backing him. Take him with confidence.

    Ernest Wilford/Matt Jones/Reggie Williams- Pick 1!

Wilford. There is no real question in my mind. I saw Wilford play maybe 10 games in college and I coveted him in the NFL. The guy is a straight up monster. He has a great aggressive attitude that makes him better than some of the other guys with more athletic ability, ie Reggie Williams. Athletic ability is only one part of the equation - he has some of that too. I tried to trade 2 dynasty rookie picks and a young RB for him. I got the shaft. Wilford will be good, Jones will be strong, but more gadget than go-to. Wait for Reggie to go to another team. I think his time is done being the future in Jax.
