  1. Looking at your roster you need one more RB and WR and you should be in good spot for those players in your rookie draft. Some idle thoughts: Trading back for Leshoure, or outright drafting him #2 locks up the Lions RB game. Do you see the Lions becoming an elite offense or is it the same old Lions? Dynasty makes this a lot more critical screw this up and your team sucks for years. I might try to see what I could get for Stafford, later this year. Hope and pray he has a stellar start and package him in a trade. The Big Brass Balls move would be to trade Ryan and go all in on the Lions offense, but I am not sure that is a good idea. It's a big gamble that could really backfire. On paper that offense looks like it could be good but it is a year away I think and thats if Stafford can make it as a QB, I am worried those shoulder injuries could sap his arm strength and turn him into Pennignton type QB, which was never his game to begin with. You have some depth maybe look at trying to package Stafford/Moreno in season for an upgrade and draft a developmental QB? Is Ingram in a good spot? I am slightly uneasy with him being on the Saints, but Peyton is a great coach and will find a way to use him.

2011 NFL Draft Weekend Division Thread: NFC West

Don't watch alot of the Cardinals so maybe I am way off base but from what I have seen: I am not a believer in the Cardinals O-Line, that line is actually extremely bad at pass blocking. Their defense is loaded with talent but for some reason it's not as good as it should be. Bad coaching, underachievers on defense, or bad fit for system I dont know why, but that defense should be a lot better than it is. They could be just worn out since the offense has been so bad this happened to Seattles defense all last year. Also it is looking like the window closed on that offense the second Warner retired, you lost Boldin and I think Fitzgerald wants out at the end of the year. RB has been a horror show and they never really used the TE much. I think Wisenhunt is trying to convert to a heavy run type offense but so far has missed on the RB's. If they land Kolb maybe they contend for the playoffs but I think he gets killed behind that O-line, Palmer or Bulger would be even worse with their injury history.
  3. Kutulu nailed it. I dont play dynasty but from what I have read and heard, young rookie RB's with a chance at +50% of the workload are solid gold. They should be worth an established #1 WR in a trade, in which case I would tend to devalue the WR position in rookie drafts till after all the potential stud RB's are taken. Also Rookie WR's tend not to give you truly game changing stats and often struggle early on. Leshore, if he knows how to pass block, and I have no idea if he does or not. That offense is going to be good and we have already seen that Best likely cannot handle the full load. If he can't pass block he will likely be a second half wonder and not give good value for the whole season. Thomas since that has been a run first offense the last few years.

Who is the worst owner in sports?

Buffalo had an elite team there in the 90s and made 4 or was it 5 superbowls in a row? Also it kind of looks like the new team management might have the team turning the corner and heading back to contention. I think if anything he was just too loyal to Levy? His old coach and let him play GM too long. Although if he manages to lose the team for Buffalo and they move it to Canada (I can't believe anyone would be this stupid but hey Cleveland, Baltimore, St. Louis and Seattle would all be proof of different leagues stupidity) he instantly makes the list.

Who is the worst owner in sports?

Your right though the owner must have done multiple things to make them a bad owner one thing just isn't enough. Cheapskate-not spending on free agents, scouts and team management-extremely arbitrary, we need a prolonged period of this behaviour Abusive towards fans-ignoring them, insulting them, continously raising ticket prices out of line with rest of league, threatening to move team unless get new stadium Racism-self explanatory Moving Team-anyone that allows this to happen with local buyers trying to keep the team, if there is no support thats one thing but moving it on a whim or for a new stadium sucks. The abusive behavior towards fans is the one that really pisses me off, taking for granted that you represent a City, the people who live there and the fans that buy tickets and support the team really makes me mad. I will never forgive the NBA for letting them steal the Sonics. You disrespected our entire city with this bull crap and used the excuse that we would not pay for another billion dollar stadium. I am tired of having my city held hostage by greedy A-holes so they can get a new building with more luxury suites. Howard Schulz pretty much knew this and allowed it to happen so I put him on a top 10 list of worst owners.

Schott was banned for racism and forced to sell the team by the commissioner was she not? Thats a pretty big negative.

teams that still need a QB

Mike Brown is probably one of the worst owners in sports, thats impressive considering Donald Sterling, The Maloofs, Al Davis, Schneider, The McCourts, Schulz...ugh this list is depressing. I am starting that thread though this will be fun. Anyways I remember a piece by ESPN trying to make Mike Brown sound like a decent football guy and it all came across as a son that will never be as good as his dad was and more than a little bitter about it. I absolutely believe Brown will force Palmer to retire. I can see both sides, but Palmer did sign a contract is it too much to ask him to live up to it? I was reading scouting report on Kapernick, I am starting to get more than a little nervous about that guy as a Seahawks fan. He outran Newton, was stronger, is a 4 year starter and seems relatively humble. I thought this was a reach but now I am starting to get concerned... did the 49ers manage to land the best QB in this draft?

teams that still need a QB

Yep, its probably just wishful thinking that Palmer ends up in Seattle. Does anyone know what family he has in the pacific NW? It's not like a second cousin or something is it? I really dont think Alex Smith will be back in San Fran, I hear a lot of the chatter from Harbaugh but no confirmation from the player. Harbaugh realizes he is screwed unless he can bring back Smith or another veteran QB. Kapernick is a developmental QB he wont be ready for at least a year so they need a veteran QB to bridge the interm. The fans have had nothing but hate for him, if you had any self respect would you come back in his place? Unless they give him a sweetheart deal I just see him signing with one of the other dozen QB needy teams and starting fresh. Your right Kolb is probably too expensive and too young to be a bridge, he is a starter right away, which is what the 49ers need. If this team had decent QB play they could give the Rams a run for the division and possibly make some noise in the playoffs. If they wait for Kapernick to develop, bring back Smith they are in a lot of trouble. As a Seahawks fan, I really hope they bring back Alex Smith but they wouldnt be that stupid would they?

2011 NFL Draft Weekend Division Thread: NFC North

I really like what the Lions have done, they will be one of the more fun teams to watch this year. They have set that offense up to be an elite group in the league eventually. It seems to take a year for a young talented offense to truly gel and get going, they will be good this year, but great for the next 3-5years. If and its a big IF they spend money in free agency, there are a lot of free agent corners this year. Also there are typically quite a few serviceable linebackers available so while it would have been nice to see them address these weaknesses the future looks pretty bright. Their biggest need while likely be LT and if Stafford is truly the anwser at QB. In both cases they can probably solve either issue in next years draft and still compete for a wild card spot this year. That is a pretty damn impressive turnaround considering what Millen did to the Lions.

My POST-DRAFT top 22 - RBs and WRs

I think Leshoure should be higher, I have a hunch he will rapidly become the feature back with Best as the third down back. I also think Locker ended up in a pretty good situation, hopefully he sits for a little while. But he is stupid enough to think he can start and he does actually offer an upgrade over Collins immiedately at the expense of fully developing. Ingram, Thomas, Williams should be 1, 2, 3. Young RB's with the potential to be a feature RB are worth more than a potential #1 WR. They should also offer more value rookie year as well. I would put Julio Jones fourth and then AJ Green based on situation, the Bengals are going to be a run first team with a bad QB.

teams that still need a QB

Titans-Collins/Locker...I think maybe Alex Smith signs here. I hope they give Locker the whole year on the bench but I think he gets half the year and then starts and I have no idea what to expect. Cardinals-Orton or Bulger. If it is Bulger it's a mistake cause he is going to get killed by week 8, little known fact that O-line can't pass block to save their QB's life. Which goes to show you how special Warner really was. 49ers-trade for Kolb, I just can't see Smith being back unless they pay him a ton of cash and he has no self respect, the fans ride him something fierce. He could be a backup elsewhere and maybe even start on the Titans, Cardinals. Seahawks-Palmer/Hasselbeck/Whitehurst probably in that order. I think Hasselbeck would like to come back but if it comes down to the money the Vikings can and will give him more. Whitehurst is a slightly more mobile poor mans version of Drew Bledsoe, big arm but accuracy issues on short routes, which of course Seattle asks him to do a lot of being a West Coast Offensive team. I honestly think Carrol is willing to give Whitehurst a shot for a full year if the other two fall through which keeps me up nights. Vikings-Favre! Just kidding, unless of course he really wants to come back then who knows....Hasselbeck (As a seahawks fan this sucks on so many levels it is unbelievable, I still haven't forgiven them for the poison pill and stealing Hutchinson) Miami-they could sneak in on Kolb or Palmer but I think they really intend to let Henne try for another year. Maybe Orton. Buffalo-Fitzpatrick looks great to me. Denver-trades Orton, gives Tebow a shot and drafts Luck next year

2011 NFL Draft Weekend Division Thread: NFC West

Looking at our draft, I am starting to wonder if we are going to make a shift to a full out 3-4. Our secondary was weak, and we loaded up on a ton of secondary help, the linebackers were probably our best depth and they got better too. I wonder if they have dreams of employing the green bay style 3-4? Only problem there is we don't have Dom Capers. It might make sense in that Mebane is big enough to play a 3-4 nose tackle and red bryant is the epitome of a 3-4 end. Then we can rotate in and out on the other end spot. Does Bradely have any experience with the 3-4 or is this a possible disconnect between the GM and the coaching staff? I am concerned we seemed to go with a quantity over quality approach but I think that was our only option. I love that we seem to have rebuilt our O-line to Cable's specs. They are really putting Cable on the hot seat with this draft, it looks like they expressly got the guys he wanted. I am glad we started building in the trenches first, although I am confused why we didnt get more D-Line help. On the divisional front: I think the Rams got better, the 49ers stayed the same talent wise but improve in the standings by having a coach that is competent, and the Cardinals stayed the same until they get a QB. It pains me to say it but the Rams have the talent to win the division for the next few years. The 49ers think they have a contender except for the lack of a QB so they are at best a .500 team until they get a legit QB and they need it now not a developmental guy. The Cardinals and Seahawks are in rebuilding modes but only one of those teams admits or acknowledges it.

2011 NFL Draft Discussion: Round 2

The teams have really paniced and went nuts for subpar QB's in my opinion. This draft was widely panned as a very poor QB draft and yet we see a ton taken early. The only one I have any hope for is Gabbert since he can sit and learn for a year. Maybe Locker since he is supposed to be mentally tough, but if they start him early I dont like his chances.

They should have gone for Harris or Bowers, but maybe they will make a splash in the FA market for a corner. Detroit is getting close to playoff contention. Of course they could be paper champions.

Cleveland should have swung for the fences with Bowers, still doing a nice job rebuilding that defensive line.

The players actually seem to enjoy it. Their are a few look at me types that actually trot out there with the neon green gloves and shoes, its pretty damn funny to see. Also it's a brilliant marketing idea, not totally emasculating but lets them push out lots of neon green crap for female fans. I miss the old blue jerseys, but supposedly the players hated the old colors. Which I find oddly funny that they embrace neon green.

Love what the Saints have done so far, great picks. I am afraid Atlanta gave up too much, they still have holes on defense to fill. They must have plans to sign some pass rushers in free agency. But I like that the franchise has some balls and says our team is close to a superbowl and this is what we need and goes out and gets it done. I thought the Buc's should have grabbed Cameron Jordan instead of Clayborn, I think that one might come back to haunt them. I am a bit worried Clayborn is not going to be able to generate a pass rush. Poor Panther fans, I hope Cam works out but I will be real suprised if he does. I heard several announcers say off hand that the Panthers attendance was down and this might have been to boost interest in the team. A gamble like this to boost attendance, not a good sign.

Homlgren is the master...I really miss him in Seattle. Then new GM up here seems alright but the Browns got a Legend. Congrats, this should really make that Browns team competitive much faster. Not sure I see the fit with a true Nose tackle from the 3-4 style in Homlgrens 4-3defense but the kid is a load and will anchor it for years. Bright days are at least a year closer with this trade for Cleveland...congrats!

I think it was a bit of a reach as I think he would have been available late in round 2 we could have taken Camiri there and then Carpenter in second and solidified the O-line for years. Still I love the pick the O-Line was atrocious and they are investing in improving it. He is a beast of a man and even if he flops at RT we could throw him in at guard next to Okung and have some Jones/Hutchinson synergy along the leftside of the O-Line. I would like to see another guard guy selected with the second pick. With Okung, Carpenter, Unger and another 2nd round guard we would solidify the O-Line for 10years. If Cable is as good with O-lines as everyone says we could have a top 5 O-line this coming year. Put Lynch and Forsett behind that and we would really have something. We could sustain drives and not tire out our defense and Hasselback would have to love seeing a much improved O-line he might decide to resign with us. I am just happy management recognized our biggest need and is addressing it.
