    Laurence Maroney

As a Dillon owner I admit that I'm impressed with what I've seen of Maroney (and also while at Minnesota), when I drafted Dillon I thought Maroney might take over later in the season. I see Dillon starting, the offense stalling and then Maroney coming in getting the bulk of the touches. Dillon may end up the goal line back. It's Maroney's pass-catching that's been a surprise, in a ppr league I thought Dillon would be a good #3 RB (I have LJ and K.Jones) but last week with KJ on bye Dillon needed only a decent week for me to win and he let early. So start Maroney.

Is it safe to say that K Winslow is a Gatesian stud

I have Warner so am watching this closely and I agree that one should stay away from rookie QBs. Manning had 6 TDs, 9 Ints, 115 ypg his rookie year - which is not fantasy QB material, even as a backup. Rivers is going to be constrained (Marty would run the ball every play if he could) and Leinhart while I think can be a good fantasy backup, is not going to just come in and chuck 3 TDs and 300 yards like Warner did. The only rookie QBs that posted starter or quality backup numbers were Marino and Peyton Manning.

    Randy Moss?

This is a toughie as I have Moss and also Culpepper so saw both him and Chambers. Basically as someone said, Moss' trade value is at its lowest and both Moss and Chambers played good defenses so it's tough to gauge who will do better over the year after the first week. The other thing to note is that Moss usually plays well in nationally televised games (see his games vs. the Packers, Thanksgiving etc.) so I don't really want to think that week 1 is going to be one of his better ones. I would do Moss for Chambers straight up but my guess is that the Chambers owner is going to ask for somebody else. Otherwise wait for Moss to hopefully do something in week 2 or 3 and trade him then. In PPR leagues, Moss is actually ok. I actually think you need help at QB.

rate please, picked 2'nd got LJ

Finished my draft and posting on various boards for any feedback. I kind of got surprised when SA went first. Rules - basic ppr, flex, 1 pt 10 yds rec/rush, 4 pts pass TD QB: Culpepper, Warner RB: LJ, Kevin Jones, Dillon, DeAngelo Williams, Ryan Moats WR: Randy Moss, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Isaac Bruce, David Givens TE: LJ Smith, K. Winslow K: Kasay DT: Miami, Jets Honestly not that hot on Moss but he was the last big-time WR left, K Jones in rd 3 may have been a reach.

    Portis

In my ypc league with 1 pt/10 yds rec/rush, Portis finished 7'th among RBs and 19t'h overall but the key figure was he finished 100 pts behind #1 (SA). Portis may still crack the top-5 this year but that would mean he'd have to signficantly increase his production while Barber (#4) would have to fall back considerably. If I have the 4'th pick I just take Barber and not worry about Portis.

    Steve Smith

Well a team can copy Seattle's scheme all they want but they still need the personnel to execute it - Seattle has the best secondary in the league. Does anyone think the Giants and Bears didn't want to stop Smith? I agree that the WR position is too unpredictable to have a clearcut #1 (maybe Rice in the mid-80's was the closest).

    sportscenter is unwatchable...

Baseball has a lot of positives going for it but until it fixes the competitive balance, it will be #2 sport in America (the ratings show it's a distant 2'nd). Right now the small and middle market teams in general are defacto farm teams for the big market clubs. And yes, it's one team that skews everything. The payroll between the Yanks (#1) and Red Sox (#2) is $90 million while the difference between the Sox and Tampa Bay (#27) is like $70M so there's the Yanks and then about 4-5 other teams in the 100-120 range. As of now places like KC and Pittsburgh, teams that have a rich history, great players and WS titles are football towns.

    Steve Smith

Well the thing is that Smith was such a dominant WR in ppr/ydge leagues that he'd have to fall pretty considerably and someother WR would have to move up in order to knock him from the top-5. I think you can find ??? about most of the WRs on the above list. Why can't you say that James will take away catches and yards from Boldin/Fitzgerald? Smith is not a clearcut #1 I agree but he'll finish in the top-5 with Owens/Johnson/Holt and one of Boldin/Fitzgerald. Also let's not forget he had fantastic playoff games till Seattle (which has the best secondary in the league).

Is TJ Houshmandzadeh the best #2 receiver

If this is #2 WR on a team, as others have said you have to probably put Wayne and Fitzgerald ahead of him. If the question is whether he's a #2 fantasy receiver, that's a more interesting question. In our 12-team league he finished 13'th in WR points which would indicate he's an elite #2, maybe the top. I think that if you already have one elite WR and 3 RBs (or WR, 2 RB, elite QB/TE) and he's sitting there in round 5, you take him. His ADP is 5.04 and I think he'd make a great pick there. If you have the second scenario of WR, 2 RBs, QB/TE, then it's a call between him and the next RB available. It looks like he 'll be taken by the 5'th though so that's a tougher choice. His value could go up as we see how Palmer does in the preseason.

    10 to draft & 10 to avoid....

This is a good list in that it gets people talking about some different players. I also concur that the thread would have had no flames had the original poster not mentioned the # of titles. As for the list, like I said it's solid but I think Addai will be the guy in Indy in a few weeks and I wouldn't mind taking him in the 4'th if I had 2 RBs already and the WRs left are all interchangeable. My main point is the Portis over LT love. CP finished 19'th in my league (ppr, 1 pt per 10 yds rush/rec, 20 yds pass) with LT finishing 3'rd (one point out of second). Unless LT falls dramatically and CP rises similarly, LT is the clear #3. To put it in perspective, Hasselbeck finished higher than Portis. I know leagues have different scoring rules but hey if you think Portis is better and you have the 3'rd pick, trade it and get better picks in the 2'nd and 3'rd rounds.

    Picking 9th in a 12 man league...

I think I'm with the folks that say the fundamentals of when you draft your first QB don't change whether it is 4 or 6 pts per pass TD. The question is can you pass on Manning (no pun intended) or is Manning the clearcut #1 that you'd rather take him in the 1'st and gamble a bit on RBs/WRs from the second round on. If you think there are question marks with the other QBs, take Manning in the first. If not, wait till at least the 5'th to take one and load up on RBs and WRs.

    Peter King of S.I

    Definitely agree with you here.

    Peter King of S.I

That's too general of a statement to make - it would depend on the rules and draft position. If an owner had the 12'th and 13'th, you could go with Manning and Brown or Westbrook and then take your chances with the other RBs. But there little chance that an owner could get both Brown and Westbrook if they drafted QB first. So I'm with the others (though I think King is a good columnist).

    3 starting running backs-pro/con

I think the biggest flaw in 3 RB is that it does not match the NFL. You want a fantasy league to match the real one at least in terms of how important players are (at least players you can measure). Nobody plays a 3-back set, in fact more teams play a 3 WR set, you could probably argue that a league should have 3 WRs over 3 RBs. So I'd say it doesn't match the NFL and as other said, make it a flex.
  15. keepitreal

    culpepper or mcnabb

They're both coming off injury so you have to watch how they're doing in the preseason. Right now the reports are that both are doing well. If you're in a yardage league, I'd lean slightly to McNabb because Philly is going to be a pass-first offense, they'll have a 60/40 pass/run ratio, Miami could be more balanced.
