All SNAP recipients will have to reapply, USDA chief says
squistion replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
There are 42 million Americans on SNAP. This is just a delaying tactic to pay out benefits to people, most of whom really need so they don't go hungry. How long will it take the government to process and evaluate the elgibility for these 42 million people? People could easily go for 6 months to a year (maybe longer) before they are reapproved and the benifits start again. -

Nothing said since that hasn't been proven. AI Overview It has been widely reported in the media that investigators have linked Thomas Crooks to online accounts, including a DeviantArt page, but there has been no independent official confirmation from the FBI or Secret Service that the accounts definitively belonged to him. -
Donald Trump wants states to handle their own natural disasters instead of FEMA.

Donald Trump says he wants the states to handle their own natural disasters instead of FEMA. https://x.com/ArtCandee/status/1882824426791837831 (video clip of Trump at link) Brilliant! This should really go over with the Red states having to deal with hurricanes on their own. Fun Fact: Florida, Louisiana, and Texas receive the most FEMA dollars: from 2015 to August 2024—Florida received $2.5 billion, Louisiana $2.4 billion, and Texas $2.3 billion. -

Grok @grok Yes, DeviantArt defaults to displaying "they/them" pronouns on profiles if users don't specify otherwise or choose to hide them. -

I don't see how anyone could cheer that, it's like something out of Germany in the 30's with the Jews. -

Nightclubs that play reggaeton music on Saturday nights decided not to open. And Catholic churches, which tend to have many immigrant parishioners, were unusually empty on Sunday morning. The Trump administration crackdown on illegal immigrants arrived in Charlotte this weekend, resulting in 81 arrests on Saturday. It continued on Sunday, with Border Patrol agents fanning out across the largest city in North Carolina. An immigrant rights group said the tally, reported by a senior Border Patrol official on social media, was the largest number of immigrant arrests in the state’s recent history. The presence of the agents, led by Gregory Bovino, who directed similar operations in Chicago and Los Angeles this year, has startled people in one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Much of that growth has been spurred by international migration, especially from Latin America. The city is also home to large corporations in the retail, banking and manufacturing sectors. The increase in immigration has drawn the attention of Trump administration officials, who have been targeting communities with large immigrant populations for enforcement efforts. The North Carolina operation, dubbed “Charlotte’s Web” — a reference to the children’s book that tells the story of friendship and an effort to save the life of a beloved barnyard pig — has already drawn criticism for its aggressive tactics, with local officials telling people to record their interactions with agents. Mr. Bovino has already declared the North Carolina mission to be a success, confirming the 81 arrests in a social media post on X. He also posted photos of six detained people who he said had criminal histories. Neither Mr. Bovino, who is from western North Carolina, nor the Department of Homeland Security has said exactly how many of the 81 people arrested on Saturday had criminal histories. [...] -

https://x.com/kylegriffin1/status/1990154197900341690 (with link to Atlantic article which is subscriber only content) The Atlantic speaks with one of the jurors in the case of the man who threw a Subway sandwich at a federal agent. The juror says that, despite two initial holdouts, it was ultimately pretty easy to acquit: "a clear majority felt it was nonsensical, like, don't waste our time or money."

Marjorie Taylor Greene is starting to get it about mass deportation
squistion replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I don't know what to think, but I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that she is turning over a new leaf (so to speak): BASH: We have seen these attacks from the president at other people. It's not new. And I haven't heard you speak out about it until it was directed at you. MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: I think that's fair criticism. And I would like to say, humbly, I'm sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. -

Who could have ever seen this coming? Trump Withdraws Endorsement of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Backs Challenger Over Policy Disputes Last updated 5 minutes ago On November 15, 2025, President Donald Trump publicly withdrew his endorsement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Truth Social, calling her a 'traitor' and vowing to support a primary challenger in Georgia due to her advocacy for releasing Jeffrey Epstein's files and opposition to unconditional U.S. aid to Israel. Greene, who has pushed the Epstein disclosure alongside Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Rand Paul, responded by comparing Trump's attacks to harassment faced by Epstein's victims and reported receiving safety warnings amid threats. The feud highlights divisions within the Republican Party, with Democrats observing the internal conflict as a potential vulnerability ahead of midterms.
