Google says Gulf of Mexico will change to Gulf of America in Maps app:

https://x.com/Cynthia95001250/status/1888824447618158969 The Gulf of Mexico is now called the Gulf of America on Google maps in the US. The rest of the world still calls it the Gulf of Mexico. That's how far gone the US is. -

I am sure this decision by the NFL will be warmly received by all the open-minded folks on this forum. https://www.ntd.com/nfl-announces-black-national-anthem-will-be-performed-at-super-bowl_967515.html NFL Announces ‘Black National Anthem’ Will Be Performed at Super Bowl The NFL has announced that the pregame entertainment for Super Bowl LVIII will include the performance of a song known colloquially as the “Black National Anthem,” drawing mixed reactions and stirring debate on social media and beyond. Grammy-winning R&B singer Andra Day will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” unofficially known as the “Black National Anthem,” ahead of the Super Bowl game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 11, the NFL said in a Jan. 18 announcement. The song, written by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson in 1900, served as a rallying cry for black Americans during the civil rights era. Ms. Day took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post her reaction to the NFL’s announcement. “Peace & Blessings!!! Performing the Anthem at the SuperBowl yall! Grateful! Thank You God,” she wrote. While Ms. Day’s reaction to the NFL’s announcement was understandably positive, reactions on X to the NFL’s post were mixed. Reactions Some reactions online to news that Ms. Day would be singing the “Black National Anthem” at the Super Bowl were positive, with some people praising the lineup. “That’s a good lineup! Love it,” one user commented in a post on X. Country music legend Reba McEntire will perform the national anthem at the pre-game show, while musician Post Malone will deliver a rendition of “America the Beautiful.” There were plenty of negative reactions to the NFL’s decision to include “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the pre-game show, however. Some people suggested it sows division because there already is a national anthem for everyone. “No need for a separate national anthem for the black community,” one user wrote. “Don’t need a ‘black’ national anthem and an ‘everyone else’ national anthem. Our national anthem is called that for a reason—it’s for all Americans.” Another user said they found “Lift Every Voice and Sing” a “beautiful song” but added they would rather have no anthem at all performed at the Super Bowl “than two divided on race.”

https://usaviral247.com/trump-suggests-super-bowl-fans-booed-taylor-swift-because-she-didnt-back-him-in-2024/ Trump suggests Super Bowl fans booed Taylor Swift because she didn’t back him in 2024 President Donald Trump revived his apparent grudge against pop star Taylor Swift during the Super Bowl, mocking the singer after she was booed by fans at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday night. Trump, who attended the game in New Orleans with his daughter Ivanka Trump, did not publicly congratulate the Philadelphia Eagles for their blowout win against the Kansas City Chiefs. But he did share multiple posts on Truth Social about Swift being jeered by the crowd. During the game, Trump posted videos contrasting the applause he received while briefly appearing on the jumbotron during the National Anthem to the boos from the crowd when Swift was featured on the screen. After the game, Trump seemed to reference Swift’s endorsement of then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election, claiming that it was his fans who booed her. “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium,” Trump later wrote on Truth Social after the game. “MAGA is very unforgiving!” The singer, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, appeared confused by the negative reaction she received in the stadium. Although Trump suggested the boos were political, it’s unclear what motivated the crowd. NBC News reported that the stadium was dominated by Eagles fans, and The Associated Press speculated that the boos were simply due to anti-Chiefs sentiment. She also did not leave the arena because of the boos, as the president claimed.

"The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!" - Donald Trump Truth Social Post 11:14 PM EST 02/09/25 https://x.com/rockstarronan/status/1888832830924533783 Imagine being the actual sitting president of the United States and using your platform to talk about Taylor Swift. Pathetic, fragile, and entirely on brand for a man who thrives on bitterness and insecurity. Meanwhile, Taylor continues to donate millions, uplift others, and live rent-free in your tiny, petty mind. Enjoy your legacy of being the most embarrassing president in history. And the definition of the smallest man who ever lived. -
Maybe that's why a POTUS shouldn't attend the Super Bowl and most of this political discussion could have been avoided (as it is at Super Bowl get togethers most years).

"Black National Anthem" performed at Super Bowl
squistion replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
I saw "National Anthem" was trending on the Twitters/X this morning, but most of the comments are from people still having a hissy fit about a rendition of "LIft Every Voice and Sing" (aka The Black National Anthem) being done again. https://x.com/search?q=National Anthem&src=typeahead_click&f=live -

Google says Gulf of Mexico will change to Gulf of America in Maps app:
squistion replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
That is the same logic. So to recap...to get around a law forbidding drilling in the Gulf Of Mexico,, we just change the name to The Gulf of America on maps and we can go ahead and drill (even though the rest of the world is still calling it The Gulf of Mexico). That has to be shtick and is something out of Alice in Wonderland or Behind The Looking Glass. -

People kept telling us before the election that it was Democrats, liberals and the left who were against free speech and freedom of the press. Guess not. -
Mixed reaction, although mostly favorable due to the fact that it is expensive to attend, which more likely means Trump supporters with money rather than your everyday NFL fan. Fun Fact: The cheapest seats are on the Superdome terrace (the stadium's upper level, in the 20th row) cost about $3,000 each on Ticketmaster.

"I'd provide a link, but are just toooooo many to prove what I claim" How about you give us just one or two from a legitimate non-biased news source? If you can't then you claim of "thousands" murdered since the 1990's is hyperbole.

No, this is not from The Onion or The Babylon Bee. I can't believe they are being serious. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14368303/Science-Museum-Lego-anti-LGBT.html Science Museum's self-guided tour accuses Lego of being anti-LGBT as interlocking bricks reinforce heterosexuality as 'the norm' Lego can be anti-gay because some people describe the bricks as having male or female parts which 'mate' with each other, Science Museum staff have claimed. The London attraction is running a self-guided tour called 'Seeing Things Queerly' which states the blocks can illustrate how heterosexuality is seen as the 'norm'. The tour, which looks at 'stories of queer communities, experiences and identities' in the museum's collection, refers to Lego being 'often described in a gendered way'. The guide - branded 'completely bonkers' by a campaign group - states: 'Like other connectors and fasteners, Lego bricks are often described in a gendered way. 'The top of the brick with sticking out pins is male, the bottom of the brick with holes to receive the pins is female, and the process of the two sides being put together is called mating. 'This is an example of applying heteronormative language to topics unrelated to gender, sex and reproduction. 'It illustrates how heteronormativity (the idea that heterosexuality and the male/female gender binary are the norm and everything that falls outside is unusual) shapes the way we speak about science, technology, and the world in general.' The tour was devised by a 'gender and sexuality network' at the museum which is a group of 'staff and volunteers committed to creating more visibility and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community in the Science Museum Group's museums and collection'.
