  1. The BLM movement has emphasized from the beginning that they are are not saying only Black lives matter, or that other lives do not matter. They are saying that Black lives are valuable and deserve equal treatment under the law. The movement aims to address the systemic racism and discrimination that Black people face.
  2. All the unarmed blacks killed by LEOs speaks otherwise, which is what prompted the movement.
  3. That was true when the article was written and was part of the street art mural that was just removed.
  4. But the government was going to deport him without anything proven in court. That is the lack of due process.
  5. From the Twitters: You must have your green card or visa revoked with due process and for those with a green card that usually means you must've broken an actual law or be charged with such a crime. Mahmoud Khalil has not been charged with a crime. His rights have been & are being violated.
  6. From The Brookings Institute: https://www.brookings.edu/articles/black-lives-matter-at-10-years-what-impact-has-it-had-on-policing/ Black Lives Matter at 10 years: 8 ways the movement has been highly effective The Black Lives Matter movement has been highly effective over the past decade. Black Lives Matter aimed to shed light on police brutality, which it has done. Below is a list of some of the notable impacts of the movement. Black Lives Matter normalized the filming of Black pain at the hands of individuals sworn to treat everyone equally. Without personal video, we may not collectively know about George Floyd, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, or Korryn Gaines. Black Lives Matter shifted public opinion. For example, a 2017 Pew study found that 54% of white people viewed officer-involved shootings involving Black people to be signs of a broader problem. The fact that over 50% of white people think that policing has racial issues is a huge achievement. This attitudinal shift created a policy window for local, state, and federal changes to policing and the criminal justice system. Black Lives Matter helped usher in a series of policy and organizational changes to policing that include implicit bias trainings, body-worn cameras, and bans on no-knock warrants. Black Lives Matter helped illuminate the inordinate amount of money spent on policing and civilian payouts for police brutality that come out of taxpayer pockets. Black Lives Matter helped stimulate federal oversight for problematic cities such as Ferguson, Louisville, Baltimore, and Minneapolis. Black Lives Matter altered data collection efforts in the academy, police departments, and the federal government to better assess what law enforcement policies do and do not work to reduce racial disparities. Black Lives Matter galvanized a new crop of elected officials and political actors. Black Lives Matter is etched in yellow paint on the street outside of the White House.
  7. Even though he is not a citizen, he still does have the right to due process under the law, which was not observed here.
  8. Wait, what? BLM was based on platforming black trans voices?
  9. It is symbolic, showing what Trump, the Gop and MAGA folks really feel about black people and issues that are important to them.
  10. And how often have we heard in this forum, "Democrats and the left hate free speech"
  11. So, if it was a Mexican student who had protested instead of a Palestinian would calling him a "filthy Mexican" be appropriate in this forum?
  12. From Matt Lewis: https://x.com/mattklewis/status/1899197094738493690 Here’s the punchline, folks — the economy was actually fine. Jobs were up, inflation had stabilized, business was good. And then this guy storms in like a drunk dad at a Little League game screaming “PUT THE TARIFFS IN!” and now everyone’s looking around wondering why the stock market looks like a roller coaster.
  13. https://x.com/GerardDalbon/status/1899214577595826623 (video clip at link) Thousands marching now in Manhattan shutting down streets despite large NYPD presence to demand the release and freedom of Mahmoud Khalil a Palestinian activist student at Columbia abducted yesterday by ICE and placed in a Louisiana detention center
  14. Of the ones attacking and beating the Capitol Police?
  15. I am not sure Blue Sky would be any better on this news item.
  16. https://x.com/AttorneyCrump/status/1898577031111062008 D.C. is erasing history by removing Black Lives Matter Plaza—once a powerful symbol of justice—amid pressure. This decision ignores the fight for racial equality and the millions who were inspired by its message. We must keep pushing for change!

    Twitter

It appears that a lot of users have had problems, to the point that "My Twitter" is trending, which is amusing after Elon's rebranding to X. https://x.com/search?q="My Twitter"&src=trend_click&vertical=trends

    Zelensky and Ukraine Thread

Pretending or not, it doesn't matter. HT is probably a shut in who has nothing else to do with his time but post in every thread here whether he knows anything about the subject matter or not. I put him ignore after repeatedly confronting his false statements with fact checking links that he never was able to refute, and usually just doubled down on his nonsense after being proven wrong. I might feel sorry for him if he wasn't so obnoxious.

Has been working fine for me this morning.
  20. Was Trump dumb enough to think that Canadians want to be the 51st state?

    Reacher on Prime Video

Oh, yeah, I've seen interviews with on a couple of late night shows (Jimmy Kimmel and Colbert, I think, can't remember). He doesn't come across as a Rhodes Scholar or a MENSA member, but he seems a fairly intelligent guy.
