Look up "condolences' to see if I know what I am talking about or not. Fun Fact: They weren't injured, they were just "nearly stabbed" - and, yes, that certainly would be traumatizing but they didn't lose anything that anyone should give condolences about.

"My condolences" is a way to express sympathy and sorrow to someone who is grieving. It's often used when someone has lost a loved one. Offering condolences to the family of someone who has been killed would seem the "Christian" thing to do. And why should he offer consolences to people who weren't injured?
