Democrats achieved the worst of all worlds with their shutdown strategy
squistion replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
I'm not sure I agree either. But here is his take (video segment and text at link) https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/msnbcs-lawrence-odonnell-claims-trump-allies-caved-on-shutdown-and-brought-epstein-files-back-to-life/ MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell Claims Trump Allies ‘Caved’ on Shutdown — And Brought Epstein Files ‘Back to Life! MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell claimed on Monday that it was President Donald Trump and his allies who “caved” to end the government shutdown — and in the process brought the so-called Epstein Files “back to life.” Democrats and their allies are livid over a deal that a small group of Democratic senators made with Republicans in order to end the government shutdown. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), Sen. Angus King (I-ME), Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Sen. Durbin (D-IL), Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) voted to advance a bill that would reopen the government in exchange for some job protections and a promise to hold a vote on Obamacare subsidies in December. On Monday night’s edition of MSNBC’s The Last Word, O’Donnell argued that it was Trump and 271 GOP members of Congress who were “forced” to change their positions by the five Democrats who moved to make the compromise. He also noted with relish that the end of the shutdown opens the way for Democrats to press Trump and his administration on issues related to deceased sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. -
Fake news story. He had no tour dates scheduled in NYC next year to cancel. https://www.newsweek.com/kid-rock-tour-zohran-mamdani-new-york-city-11027824 Did Kid Rock Cancel NY Shows Over Mamdani Win? What We Know A viral rumor is circulating online that the musician Kid Rock has canceled shows in New York following the election of Zohran Mamdani. Newsweek has contacted a representative for Kid Rock outside of regular working hours via email for comment. What To Know Kid Rock did not cancel any shows in New York over Mamdani, and claims that he did are false. X has labelled the claims a “viral hoax” in a summary of aggregated posts related to the claim on their site. Kid Rock’s website currently lists one tour date, which has now passed and was on November 8 in Arizona. He does not have further concerts listed on his website or social media, and it does not appear that he had a New York show to cancel. The rumor circulated widely on X. One post, from the account @TheRealThemlaJ1 read “Almost a dozen tickets had to be refunded,” which included a screenshot of an image purporting to be a ‘breaking news’ story about Kid Rock canceling tour dates. That post was viewed over a million times on X, and the account is described in its bio as a “parody,” and the reference to a dozen tickets being refunded is clearly a joke, poking fun at Kid Rock.

The legal threat came in a letter from Alejandro Brito, one of Mr. Trump’s lawyers, to the BBC that was obtained by The New York Times. The letter demanded a full retraction of the documentary, an apology and what his lawyers said would be payments that “appropriately compensate President Trump for the harm caused.” The letter said that if those demands were not met, “President Trump will be left with no alternative but to enforce his legal and equitable rights, all of which are expressly reserved and are not waived, including by filing legal action for no less than $1,000,000,000 (One Billion Dollars) in damages.” The letter said: “The BBC is on notice” and concluded: “PLEASE GOVERN YOURSELF ACCORDINGLY.” The BBC said on its website that it had received a letter threatening legal action and that it would “respond in due course.” The documentary, called “Trump: A Second Chance?” and broadcast before the presidential election last year, had already been removed from the BBC’s online player. Samir Shah, the BBC’s chair, said in a separate letter Monday that complaints about the editing of the clip had been discussed by the standards committee in January and May, and that the points raised in the review had been relayed to the BBC team that produced the documentary, part of a long-running current affairs series called Panorama. “With hindsight, it would have been better to take more formal action,” he wrote. He added: “We accept that the way the speech was edited did give the impression of a direct call for violent action. The BBC would like to apologize for that error of judgment.” The head of the BBC, Tim Davie, and the head of news, Deborah Turness, resigned on Sunday after growing pressure over the editing of the documentary. -

U.S. Military and boat strikes thread - Hegseth will not release the full unedited video of second boat strike
squistion replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
The extra-judicial killings without due process or a shred of evidence continues. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/10/us/politics/us-boat-strike-deaths-hegseth.html?campaign_id=60&emc=edit_na_20251110&instance_id=166143&nl=breaking-news&regi_id=125207237&segment_id=210322&user_id=14502a7228c5a9b835a15627514bfe28 U.S. Military Kills 6 in Strikes on Suspected Drug Boats, Hegseth Says The latest strikes raised the death toll in the campaign to 76 people in 19 attacks in the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea since early September. The U.S. military killed six people on Sunday in two more strikes on boats suspected of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Monday. The latest strikes raised the death toll in the campaign to 76 people in 19 attacks in the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea since early September. In a post on social media, Mr. Hegseth cited “intelligence” and included two short video clips of the bombings of two separate boats that he said were traveling “along a known narco-trafficking transit route in the Eastern Pacific.” One of the boats appeared to be at a full stop with two visible passengers and possibly with an outboard motor raised out of the water. The other was moving at high speed. But in neither case did Mr. Hegseth provide evidence for his claim that the three men aboard each of the two boats were smuggling narcotics. He said the attacks took place in international waters. A wide range of specialists in laws governing the use of force have denounced the killings as illegal because the U.S. military is not allowed to intentionally target civilians who pose no threat of imminent violence, even those suspected of being criminals. The Trump administration says the strikes are lawful because President Trump has “determined” that the United States is in a formal armed conflict with drug cartels. Mr. Trump has falsely asserted that each destroyed boat saves 25,000 American lives. In reality, as many as 100,000 Americans die each year from drug overdoses, but most of those deaths are a result of fentanyl, which comes from labs in Mexico. South America produces cocaine. The strikes on Sunday came as the U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean was expected to grow sharply with the arrival as soon as this week of the Gerald R. Ford, the United States’ largest and newest aircraft carrier, and three destroyers. The Ford carries about 5,000 sailors and has more than 75 attack, surveillance and support aircraft, including F/A-18 fighters. The Pentagon currently has about 10,000 U.S. troops divided roughly evenly between eight warships in the region and on bases in Puerto Rico. [...] -

That is paraphrasing and slightly mischaracterizing what Angus King said. From AI overview: In an October 2025 press release, King stated: "But as serious as the health insurance crisis is, I believe the shutdown itself and the additional powers it conveys to Donald Trump and his henchmen, is the greater risk."

Edit: Sanchez arrested…Mark Sanchez(butt fumble QB) stabbed in Indianapolis
squistion replied to Fireballer's topic in The Geek Club
Probably to no one's surprise. From RT Sports News: Fox takes Mark Sanchez off air permanently Fri Nov 7 1:54pm ET Field Level Media Fox Sports has severed ties with game analyst Mark Sanchez as he faces criminal charges, multiple outlets reported Friday. "We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network," a Fox spokesperson told The Athletic. "There will be no further comment at this time." Stepping into an analyst role will be another former NFL quarterback, Drew Brees, per the report. He is expected to partner with play-by-play voice Adam Amin and is signed to call games through the 2026 season, at least. Sanchez, 38, had been sidelined since he was stabbed, and subsequently arrested, following a fight in an Indianapolis alley with a 69-year-old truck driver. He was in town to call the Oct. 5 game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was hospitalized and replaced that week by Brady Quinn. Brees, 46, retired from the NFL after the 2020 season and spent the 2021 season with NBC Sports, working as a color analyst for the network's Notre Dame broadcasts and appearing on "Football Night in America." Brees has done studio work with Fox and ESPN and served as an analyst for Netflix's international game last Christmas. Brees led the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl XLIV championship in the 2009 season and was a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He ranks second behind Tom Brady in NFL history in passing yards (80,358) and touchdown passes (571). Sanchez has been charged with felony battery as well as at least three misdemeanors. The felony charge carries a sentence of one to six years in prison, if convicted, and he has pleaded not guilty in Marion County, Ind. -
