They were cutting edge as far as UK alternative rock and indie rock bands of the early 80s were concerned. They were the darlings of US college radio stations and alt rock stations like KROQ in L.A. but never found an audience on this side of the pond. From Wiki: Legacy[edit] The Smiths have been widely influential. Ian Youngs of BBC News described them as "the band that inspired deeper devotion than any British group since the Beatles".[135] Marr's guitar playing "was a huge building block for more Manchester legends that followed the Smiths", including the Stone Roses, whose guitarist John Squire said Marr was an influence.[136] The Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher also cites the Smiths as an influence, especially Marr. Gallagher said that "when the Jam split, the Smiths started, and I totally went for them."[137] The singer Davey Havok of AFI cites the Smiths as an influence.[138] The Smiths were an early influence on Radiohead,[139] and in 2001 Marr said Radiohead were the act that had "come closest to the genuine influence of the Smiths".[140] [...] Rolling Stone included four Smiths albums on its 2012 list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time",[54] and included "William, It Was Really Nothing" and "How Soon Is Now?" on its 2004 list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".[146] Morrissey is included in its 2010 list of the greatest singers.[147] In 2014 and 2015, the Smiths were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[148][149] -

No, stop repeating that lie. Liberals did not create nor run the KKK. It may have been Democrats but none of them could be considered liberal or being on the left at that time. -

Texas continues adding razor wire along border

Probably a waste of money considering how much was spent on the few miles Trump actually did complete. Plus past studies have shown that Visa overstays exceed illegal border crossings (from 2019): https://www.npr.org/2019/01/16/686056668/for-seventh-consecutive-year-visa-overstays-exceeded-illegal-border-crossings For 7th Consecutive Year, Visa Overstays Exceeded Illegal Border Crossings As the Trump administration demands funding for a border wall to stop illegal immigration, a new study finds that for the seventh consecutive year, visa overstays far exceeded unauthorized border crossings. The report released Wednesday by the Center for Migration Studies of New York finds that from 2016-2017, people who overstayed their visas accounted for 62 percent of the newly undocumented, while 38 percent had crossed a border illegally. "It is clear from our research that persons who overstay their visas add to the US undocumented population at a higher rate than border crossers. This is not a blip, but a trend which has become the norm," said Donald Kerwin, CMS' executive director, in a statement. "As these numbers indicate, construction of hundreds of more miles of border wall would not address the challenge of irregular migration into our country, far from it." -

If Trump was the Republican POTUS, and Ryan was the Speaker of the Republican controlled House, then he couldn't be the opposition party (that would be the Democrats). What is wrong with you? -

Reading is fundamental. I didn't say that no one in the world had ever said it (you can always one on YouTube). In fact, another poster pointed out that the discussion was about it being said in this forum. -

Wait, didn't the Republicans control the House and the Senate the first two years Trump was POTUS? If so, it wasn't the Democrats who stopped the wall from being built. -

They did, actually. From WaPo article: The show won 24 Emmys under Stewart and helped launch the careers of other successful comedians, including Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Samantha Bee. During Stewart's last year as host, “The Daily Show” had about 1.3 million viewers on average.
