    ACLU

The ACLU is opposing this bill because it is banning gender-affirming care, which is not the same thing as sex change surgeries.

    ACLU

That is incorrect. The suit is not about sex-change surgeries for minors. It is about denying gender affirming care to minors which is not the same thing. From the ACLU website. https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/ohio-families-file-lawsuit-challenging-ban-on-gender-affirming-healthcare-for-transgender-youth#:~:text=COLUMBUS- Today%2C the American Civil, medical care for transgender minors. Ohio Families File Lawsuit Challenging Ban on Gender-Affirming Healthcare for Transgender Youth COLUMBUS- Today, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Ohio, and the global law firm Goodwin filed a lawsuit challenging the unconstitutional enactment of House Bill 68, and specifically, a discriminatory provision in H.B. 68 that bans gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors. The organizations filed this lawsuit in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas on behalf of two families whose children are at risk of losing critical, medically necessary healthcare. The lawsuit asks the court to strike down H.B. 68 before the law is set to take effect on April 24, 2024. House Bill 68 violates four sections of the Ohio Constitution including the single-subject rule, the Health Care provision, the Equal Protection Clause, and the Due Course of Law provision. “The ban on gender-affirming care will cause severe harm to transgender youth. These personal, private medical decisions should remain between families and doctors; they don’t belong to politicians. H.B. 68 violates the Ohio Constitution in multiple ways. We will fight in court to ensure that trans youth and their parents can access critically important, lifesaving healthcare without government intrusion,” said Freda Levenson, Legal Director at the ACLU of Ohio. “We refuse to allow lawmakers to move forward with these cruel restrictions that directly harm transgender young people. Families are now confronted with the extremely difficult decision of fleeing the state they call home to protect their children or allowing them to go without the care they and their doctors know is right for them. H.B. 68 is government overreach point blank, and we are determined to reinstate Ohio families’ right to make personal medical decisions with healthcare providers – not politicians,” added Chase Strangio, Deputy Director for Transgender Justice at the ACLU. “HB 68’s restrictions on medical care for the transgender youth community not only defy medical consensus and expert judgment but eliminates a parent or caregiver’s fundamental right to make critical, informed healthcare decisions for them. Goodwin is proud to support the ACLU on this vital matter,” said Allison DeLaurentis and Miranda Hooker, partners in Goodwin’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. [...]

More to the story than just that. According to the article, she came out as transgender in 2022, and "Since then she has lived in accordance with her female gender identity at school and in all aspects of her life." https://www.wpr.org/news/transgender-middle-schooler-files-federal-lawsuit-against-elkhorn-school-district Transgender middle schooler files federal lawsuit against Elkhorn School District A transgender middle school student has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Elkhorn Area School District for denying her access to girls’ restrooms for the last two years. The 31-page complaint, filed March 21 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, alleges the Elkhorn Area School District violated Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. [...] According to the complaint, the student, referred to as Jane Doe, disclosed her gender identity to school officials in the fall of 2022. She was then allegedly forced to enter into a “Gender Support Plan,” requiring her to use faculty restrooms at the middle school. “These restrooms, which were located further away from her classes than the nearest girls’ restrooms, caused Jane to miss class time and to experience distress at being treated differently from other girls at school,” said her attorney, Joseph Wardenski, who leads a New York-based civil rights law firm. Jane is 13 years old. She was born male, but according to her family, began experiencing gender dysphoria in third grade. She came out as transgender at home and school in 2022. “Since then, she has lived in accordance with her female gender identity at school and in all aspects of her life,” Wardenski said. “She uses a traditionally female name, Jane, instead of her traditionally male birth name. She uses the pronouns she, her, and hers, which are pronouns typically used by women and girls. Because Jane is a girl, she wishes to be treated like every other girl at school.” [...]

Never saw it. Maybe the OP (whoever that was) deleted it themselves.

For Pride Month (which was the only time it was ever flown at embassies in the past) it symbolizes the support and full acceptance by our government of the LGBTQ community. Given the hatred expressed openly against LGBTQ folks 24/7 on this forum, that public show of support is probably needed.

Good for him. Republicans put that in the funding bill and Biden had to sign it in order to avoid a government shutdown. Once again, the GOP has proven that they are not any friend of the LGBTQ community.

Key Bridge in Baltimore struck by ship-collapses

https://twitter.com/cfishman/status/1772967356639162487 Again, a moment to pause & appreciate the cool professionalism of those in & around the Key Bridge at 1:24 am Tuesday. Ship’s pilot radios in that ship has lost steerage & will hit bridge. Someone (maritime control?) transmits urgent alert to Maryland/Balt police dispatch… Police dispatched with just a few crisp phrases—ship has lost steering, close the bridge to traffic—and race to do just that. No time for confusion. No time for … ‘What do you mean, close the bridge? Who says?’ 4 minutes, alert to collapse. Bridge successfully closed… That’s amazing. Again, a system worked—a government system. All those people just ordinary frontline workers in anonymous, sometimes invisible jobs. Maritime radio operators. Police/fire dispatchers. Bridge police & state police. All working 11p to 7a o’night shift. Cool, direct, urgent, successful. Maybe not a college degree or a 6-figure salary among them—and they used their training & experience at the most critical, high-pressure moment to save lives. All day, every day—that happens & we don’t see it. That’s your ‘deep state.’
  15. It was edited to give a misleading impression, just like the clips we see all the time posted here about Biden.

  17. I started to watch it, but stopped after I saw that it was selectively edited and not giving the full context of what actually happened so as to be a distorted and misleading account of what happened and why. Sky New is Murdoch anti-left and anti-liberal propaganda, just like we saw on Fox when Rupert ran it.

  19. Here is the real story from a publication not owned by Rupert Murdoch. https://www.cleveland.com/music/2024/03/why-did-rock-hall-of-famer-john-mellencamp-curse-at-fans-stomp-off-stage-at-ohio-concert.html Why did Rock Hall of Famer John Mellencamp curse at fans, stomp off stage at Ohio concert? TOLEDO, Ohio – Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Mellencamp has made it clear the audience should listen and pay attention. If hecklers can’t be quiet, he won’t play. Mellancamp, who has clashed with audiences in the past, mixed it up with a concertgoer on Sunday, March 17 during a show at the Stranahan Theater in Toledo when he was interrupted by an outburst from the crowd while telling a story. A video on TikTok shows Mellencamp stop in mid-sentence and respond after an unseen member of the audience yelled that he should stop talking and “play some music.” The audience booed the heckler. Mellencamp addressed the heckler directly. “What do you think I’ve been doing, you (expletive)?” he said. Then he told someone on the concert staff to find the man because he wanted to see him after the show. “Here’s the thing, man. You don’t know me. You don’t (expletive) know me,” he’s says in the TikTok video. “Hey Joe, find this guy and let me see him after the show.” [...] After the initial outburst, Mellencamp returned to telling his story, but he was interrupted again by another heckler who yelled that he should play the “Authority Song,” a hit from his 1983 album “Uh-Huh.” “Guys, I can stop this show right now and just go home,” Mellencamp is heard saying in the TikTok video. “Tell you what I’m going to do. Since you’ve been so wonderful, I’m going to cut about 10 songs out of the show. Here we go.” With that, Mellencamp began to sing his hit “Jack & Diane.” But he stopped abruptly. “Know what? Show’s over,” Mellencamp is heard saying on the TikTok video just before walking off stage. But Mellencamp returned to the stage after about five minutes and performed several more songs. That was after the initial heckler had been removed, Out of the Blue said. And after returning, Mellencamp also responded to another heckler, telling that concertgoer to “go back to kindergarten.”
