He was chasing Rittenhouse, who he thought had committed a murder and was fleeing the scene of the crime. Grosskreutz was trying to stop him, so that he could be held for authorities (which was a poorly thought-out plan to chase someone who carrying an assault rifle he had just used to kill someone).
