Using one slave owner disproves everything that has been said about slavery being based on racism. You can't make this stuff up. -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smiths The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982 and composed of singer Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke, and drummer Mike Joyce. Morrissey and Marr formed the band's songwriting partnership. The Smiths are regarded as one of the most important acts to emerge from 1980s British independent music. -

It is a historical fact he owned slaves. From the Twitters: If anything removing the statue is an acknowledgement of Jefferson's true history. -

He mischaracterized what I said, stating that was my opinion and then argued against that (or rather that I agreed with him). By definition a Straw Man argument. -

Most of Morrisey's political views are not leftist or shared by the left, such as being anti-Muslim. -

They were stellar musicians. Andy Rourke's killer bass line anchors the foundation on this 1983 Peel Session track, along with Marr's delicate guitar stylings. Morrissey's vocals are, for once, understated. This track has a jazz club feel, arguably the best thing they ever did. -

Dude, I didn't say Woodrow Wilson was a liberal Democrat, because he wasn't. Please. -

No, promoting the KKK and Birth Of a Nation was not liberal, lol. -

This is one of the reasons as to why I can never take any of your threads in FFA on music rankings of 80's bands seriously (or any other decade). The Smiths' output was uneven, but much of it was brilliant despite Morrissey's droll and often irritating delivery. They were incredibly influential. I doubt that you ever took the time to explore their catalog over the few years that they existed. -

Horrible bigot: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2010/sep/03/morrissey-china-subspecies-racism Morrissey reignites racism row by calling Chinese a 'subspecies' For almost three decades, indie rock icon Morrissey has made almost as many enemies as devoted fans willing to hang on his every melancholy-drenched lyric. Described by one high court judge as "devious, truculent and unreliable", the former Smiths frontman is no stranger to controversy and criticism. But tomorrow he reignites a simmering row about his views on race in an interview in Guardian Weekend magazine, in which he describes Chinese people as a "subspecies" because of their treatment of animals. Morrissey, a vegetarian and animal rights advocate who last year abandoned the stage at the Coachella festival in California because of the smell of cooking meat, described the treatment of animals in China as "absolutely horrific", referring to recent news stories about animals in Chinese circuses and zoos. He told interviewer Simon Armitage: "Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies." -

(From Reddit) Should we consider The Smiths to be a precursor to emo? I personally would consider them to be a proto-emo band that has been the most influential non-emo band on the genre en masse. Lyrically they are essentially emo, dealing with similar subject matter as 90% of contemporary emo bands. Musically, they are of their time. Their timbre is quintessential 80s synth-pop. Nonetheless, I would lump them in with emo as a whole, especially since numerous emo band (Mike Kinsela via Owen comes to mind) cite them as a very important influence on their music. Maybe they are not emo qua emo. But perhaps they should be held to some higher standard as being a precursor to the genre. What are your thoughts? -
No, that is MAGA Michelle who has just seen the cherry picked videos, not the ones that show what really happened.
