My point was that it is unrealistic and impractical to try to ban the discussion of politics because it will continue to raise its ugly head even in what is not considered a political forum.

As I tried to explain to Joe B. at that other place, there is no such thing as a non-political forum IMO, because even if you ban the subject for discussion, politics can still bleed into almost any thread (particularly those involving new events) and the mods will constantly end up playing Whac-A-Mole, deleting posts and locking threads as they do in the FFA.

Or music of any era or any genre threads. I am sure The Real Tim Schochet would be willing to start another one of his trademark "Best Songs of" threads (just kidding).
