  1. Exactly. Lots of things against him have been alleged, but no charges filed for any crime, hence the due process issues. Not to say that he won't be eventually deported (I think he will) just that the Constiutional requirements need to be followed in the meantime.
  2. According to who? The Southern Poverty Law Center disagrees: https://www.splcenter.org/resources/stories/black-lives-matter-not-hate-group/ Black Lives Matter Is Not a Hate Group [...] Black Lives Matter is not a hate group. But the perception that it is racist illustrates the problem. Our society as a whole still does not accept that racial injustice remains pervasive. And, unfortunately, the fact that white people tend to see race as a zero-sum game may actually impede progress.
  3. What did he specifically do, what laws did he break that he has been charged with to warrant deportation?
  4. BLM is not a "hate group" marxist or otherwise (although one of their founders had marxist views but she didn't stay long with the organization).
  5. No, but they run the place, so theirs is the only opinion that counts.
  6. Which is where due process comes in here along that pesky "innocent until proven guilty" concept.
  7. No, I doubt that it would be considered as a terrorist threat, but depending on the wording and who it was directed against it could be viewed as an incitement to violence.
  8. Has ICE proven in a court of law that Kahil Mahmood “endorses or espouses terrorist activity or persuades others to endorse or espouse terrorist activity"?
  9. If you expect me to respond to you, don't call me dense and stupid.
  10. And no one should be afraid to exercise their first amendment right of free speech.
  11. That statistic is false and was debunked in a couple other threads in this forum. From a Google search: No, Black people do not commit 13% of all violent crime in the US; statistics on crime rates by race are complex and vary depending on the type of crime and the year. In 2019, Black people made up 12.2% of the US population, but were involved in 26.6% of arrests for violent crimes.
  12. The BLM movement has emphasized from the beginning that they are are not saying only Black lives matter, or that other lives do not matter. They are saying that Black lives are valuable and deserve equal treatment under the law. The movement aims to address the systemic racism and discrimination that Black people face.
  13. All the unarmed blacks killed by LEOs speaks otherwise, which is what prompted the movement.
  14. That was true when the article was written and was part of the street art mural that was just removed.
  15. But the government was going to deport him without anything proven in court. That is the lack of due process.
  16. From the Twitters: You must have your green card or visa revoked with due process and for those with a green card that usually means you must've broken an actual law or be charged with such a crime. Mahmoud Khalil has not been charged with a crime. His rights have been & are being violated.
  17. From The Brookings Institute: https://www.brookings.edu/articles/black-lives-matter-at-10-years-what-impact-has-it-had-on-policing/ Black Lives Matter at 10 years: 8 ways the movement has been highly effective The Black Lives Matter movement has been highly effective over the past decade. Black Lives Matter aimed to shed light on police brutality, which it has done. Below is a list of some of the notable impacts of the movement. Black Lives Matter normalized the filming of Black pain at the hands of individuals sworn to treat everyone equally. Without personal video, we may not collectively know about George Floyd, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, or Korryn Gaines. Black Lives Matter shifted public opinion. For example, a 2017 Pew study found that 54% of white people viewed officer-involved shootings involving Black people to be signs of a broader problem. The fact that over 50% of white people think that policing has racial issues is a huge achievement. This attitudinal shift created a policy window for local, state, and federal changes to policing and the criminal justice system. Black Lives Matter helped usher in a series of policy and organizational changes to policing that include implicit bias trainings, body-worn cameras, and bans on no-knock warrants. Black Lives Matter helped illuminate the inordinate amount of money spent on policing and civilian payouts for police brutality that come out of taxpayer pockets. Black Lives Matter helped stimulate federal oversight for problematic cities such as Ferguson, Louisville, Baltimore, and Minneapolis. Black Lives Matter altered data collection efforts in the academy, police departments, and the federal government to better assess what law enforcement policies do and do not work to reduce racial disparities. Black Lives Matter galvanized a new crop of elected officials and political actors. Black Lives Matter is etched in yellow paint on the street outside of the White House.
  18. Even though he is not a citizen, he still does have the right to due process under the law, which was not observed here.
  19. Wait, what? BLM was based on platforming black trans voices?
  20. It is symbolic, showing what Trump, the Gop and MAGA folks really feel about black people and issues that are important to them.
  21. And how often have we heard in this forum, "Democrats and the left hate free speech"
