Yes, I was speaking narrowly and I should have phrased it better. It was and still is being misinterpreted as me saying that LGBTQ people had no equal rights anywhere in this country. As I have repeatedly said, I live in California (which accords more rights to LGBTQ folks than anyone) so it makes so sense I would make that statement.
