    5th pick

All hace a downside that is a concern. With that I look at who has the best chance of a monster season. I like Alexander, foot and all. He came back from the foot last year and played pretty well. If he is at 80% then I would roll the dice with him. He is the only one there, IMHO, that has a chance for 15-20 tds. The total yards are probably close. In our league, we have a 3 pts bonus for 125+ yards receiving or rushing. Westbrook would most likely not receive any bonus points because he gets 75 yards rushing and 50 receiving.

Which is the ideal spot in a 10 team Re-drafter

I think drafting 1st is the best in a 10 team league. You get 3 of the top 21 players. as you get further along in the draft the difference gap gets smaller and smaller. If LT has only a 20% drop from last year he is almost like having an extra guy. Obviously, there is more to it than that and bad drafting plays a part, but I would rather start my team with LT, Benson & Owens than Henry, Maroney & R.Williams. Actually, both look pretty good.

    QB draft strategy

I'm picking 2nd in a 10 team league and I'm definately selecting the best available in the 3rd round. I go burned last year playing matchups. I think there is a huge drop off from the top 6 and the rest. Some of the rest will perform but an awful lot of them will be below average. I can't tell the difference between Romo, Rivers, Hasselbeck, Delhomme, Cutler, Young etc. I will sacrifice that 3rd pick to gain consistency. Wides are a dime a dozen and they can be picked up later on.

    Weird Draft Order Selection...

Decline the invite. You should have been notified of the rules when you were asked. I would be leary of other rules that may pop up. A noob can't trade the 1st year? Could be stupid stuff. There are plenty of leagues to join without this nonsense. Although, I would have asked when is the draft order selection happening? Some leagues wait until draft night.

Depth: What's So Great About It?

RB depth is crutial. WRs are a dime a dozen and that includes the top guys. Chad, sans those two weeks, was terrible. I had, in a 10 team league, Smith, TJ, Roy Williams, & Coles. I wasn't even competitive because my backs were awful. I had James, Julius & Lewis. I finally has to take Lewis out and play 4 wides and I was awful. Wides are more apt to throw in 3 clunkers in a row and then go off for a week. The week by week inconsistencies are awful. You never know which backs just aren't going to perform. There is not much of a difference between Wayne and Evans. About a point a game. Wayne goes early in the second round while Evans has been going in the 4th or 5th round.

Depth: What's So Great About It?

WR can be a fickle lot. 40 yards 2 weeks in a row then 120 and 2 tds. Then it's off to 40 yards again. I would rather have a 3rd back sitting, but waiting. Not just because of injuries, but so many are underperformers. Think about Brown, Lewis, Caddilac, James, Jordan, Portis, Droughns, J.Jones etc. for the 1st half of the year. I was stuck with James, Lewis & J.Jones and they killed me. I had Green sitting on my bench and took out Lewis and that helped. Who will be this years underperformers?
  8. All TDS 6 pts 10 team league 1 pt rush/rec per 10 yds 1 pt pass per 25 yds 2nd pick overall No PPR I'm thinking of taking Palmer in the second round. If he's not there then take the top wide or RB and select Brady in the 3rd round. This would leave me with an Evans/TJ/A.Johnson/Boldin/R.Moss in the 4th and 5th rounds where I can select 2. I've been killed with not having a top consistent QB the last 2 years. I'm sure the top 6 QBs will all be gone by my pick in the 4th round. I don't want to be sitting with the likes of Rivers/Romo/Hasselbeck/Young where no one is sure what these guys are going to do. I've got 3 scenerios that I'm considering. The players listed are types of guys that might be there. I'm fairly sure that Palmer won't be there in the 3rd and it's possible he may not even make it to me in the 2nd. Scenerio #1 RB - Jackson (2) RB - Brown (19) QB - Brady (22) WR - Evans/TJ/A.Johnson/Boldin/Moss (39) WR - Evans/TJ/A.Johnson/Boldin/R.Moss (42) Scenerio #2 RB - Jackson (2) QB - Palmer (19) WR - Harrison (22) RB - Jacobs/McAllister/T.Jones (39) WR - Evans/TJ/A.Johnson/Boldin/R.Moss (42) Scenerio #3 RB - Jackson (2) WR - Smith/Chad/Holt/Harrison (19) QB - Brady/Brees (22) RB - Jacobs/McAllister/T.Jones (39) WR - Evans/TJ/A.Johnson/Boldin/R.Moss

Will I be competitive by trying this?

Thanks. I understand. I've seen a lot of mocks and it seems like Manning, Palmer, Brady, Bulger, McNabb & Brees are all gone by my spot in the 4th round. Now I'm stuck with Kitna, Romo, Rivers, Cutler and those types of guys. I don't like any of them and I just can't seperate them. Romo did nothing once defenses had some film on him. Cutler may be a year away. Rivers doesn't give much of a big week. Kitna is 35. I don't know. It seems like after the big 6 there is a significant drop off to the others where in years past it is gradual. The last two years the QB position has killed me. We have to have two on our rosters and I can never get those right with matchups. It also seems like the RBs are becoming a guessing game.

    Sportscenter NFL camp updates (SD)

Go with who can help you now. Week 12 if LT goes down is a long way off. Remember last year when everybody was going crazy over Maurice Morris when SA went down? He didn't do very much. Even if LT goes down Turner is not proven and there is no guarantees he is going to do much. Go with value rather than a roster spot.

Who should I draft at #5 overall?

Interesting to see a lot of love for Addai. I like him too, but I am cautiously optimistic with him. For one, I heard a lot of the same stuff about Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams last year. They both had very good rookie years and their potential seemed high for their second year. They both didn't live up to the hype. This year, Addai is entering his second year and I'm hearing the same things. He has never handled a full load and he plays on the Colts and we all know Manning will throw to Harrison & Wayne from the 1 yard line. After the big two, I like SA and all his issues, but he does have the best chance of 20 tds and 1600 yards. Just some food for thought.

    Draft Tip #2

Know the scoring formats for all positions. This seems stupid, but I find one or two people every year between the two leagues I'm in that get confused. Biggest example is defense. One league the team defense gets points for special teams TDs. The other does not, the player (if selected) get's it. Bush runs back a punt is handled differently. One league recogizes fumble recoveries and the other does not. I've overheard a guy talking about selecting Bush at 10 because he gets the tds for punt returns. I just smiled and nodded that in that league it goes to the defense. Never underestimate the stupidity of an opponent.

With the #6 pick, is FWP.....

That's fair enough. I've got the second pick so I won't have to make that decision. Gore has had a couple of major knee surgeries in college and now the broken hand (should be fine for game 1) and he had a huge load last year for the first time. I think there will be a bit of a bounce this year.

With the #6 pick, is FWP.....

I like SA number 3 overall. I look at the downside of LJ (400+ carries and not in camp, no QB, no receivers), Gore (broken hand), Addai (never carried a full load), Westy (always hurt), FWP (nothing really wrong with him). SA is coming off an injury, but did play well on his return. If all these guys have serious knocks (sans FWP) what is the upside? SA, if healthy, can still easily score 15-20 tds and run for another 1500+. I'm not sure if the others can do that this year.

    Draft Tip #1

I have three sheets I use. The first is to mark down the player selected. The next I have a form that lists positions and I write in the player for the team, then I mark off the player selected from my personal list. It may seem like a lot, but I can get into a rythym so it doesn't take long.
  16. 10 team, Normal scoring (no PPR) except QB TDs are 6 pts. I'm selecting 2nd. This is what I'm thinking: 1st Round (2) - Jackson 2nd Round (19) - R. Brown or T.Jones type of RB2 3rd Round (22) - Palmer or Brady, who ever is there 4th & 5th rounds (39 & 42) - Andre Johnson/TJ/Evans type, but grabbing two of them. Here is my reasoning for going out of tradition. I have been hammered with bad QBs the last two years. Inconsistency kills me. Bypassing a WR in the 2nd & 3rd rounds allows me to do this while still obtaining 2 #2 type wides. I found that wides are hit or miss week by week and there isn't much of a difference between the 6th overall wide and the 20th. They can be such a crapshoot anyways. Last year I had terrible backs and a bad QB to go along with 4 top wides and I wasn't even competitive. I'd like to know if I'm really out there.

What do you think of this stategy?

Thanks. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I try and go with value rather than position. I would rather take a Smith or Chad than a Portis or another question mark. I could live with Brees or Bulger (weird combo with Jax), but I really don't think any of the top 6 are going to be there for me in the bottom half of the 4th round. There seems to such a drop off from the top 6 and the rest. I really don't want to get caught up in a Rivers or Romo and lose the consistency factor. we play head to head and we have playoffs and a SB at the end. Fight for the playoffs is a factor.

Top QB Worth a 2nd-3rd Rd. Pick?

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm in a 10 team league where QB TDs are also 6pts. I've got the 2nd overall. I'm thinking of going with Palmer in the second round. If he's gone then wait until the 3rd and grab Brady or Brees. I think there is a big drop off between the top 5 (Manning, Brady, Bees, Palmer & Bulger). Mc Nabb is a stud, but he hasn't played a full season in a few years and he's 31. The rest are all about the same. Upside and downsides. One thing I'm looking for picking a QB so high is consistency. I have no idea what I would get with Rivers or Romo or Young. The last two years I've been playing one QB off the other (we have to have 2 QB roster spots) and I can never get it correct.
