Thomas Jones

Recommended Posts

Anoyne know how long Thomas Jones is under contract for? I'm in a big $ keeper league and am currently very deep at RB. I'm in talks with another team to deal Thomas Jones. I need to know if he is likely to return to the Bears next year or be a FA, dealt etc.

T Jones is signed through 2007. That being said, he's not being paid starting RB money - he's being paid like a good backup. He's scheduled to make 2.5 million next year, which is Dominic Rhodes/Derrick Blaylock money.

The Bears will obviously keep Jones around as long as they can - but with a season like this is he going to be happy with 2.5 million? He's going to be 28, time for him to cash in is running out.

Benson being there does take away some leverage from him, but that doesn't mean that he won't blow off all of training camp if he doesn't get a new deal or pull a Keenan McCardell type of move. It's going to be a very interesting situation to watch this offseason...

nevertheless he's running like he wants to keep his job and thats what is important. improved attitude and a willingness to play thru pain bodes well for keeping him. :wall: dillon is a down hill run with NE imho

Was his attitude ever bad?  I always tought he just had the injury bug......

Who ever said his attitude was bad. But just look at the situation - you have a starting RB who is scheduled to make 2.5 million next season and is having a terrific season. His backup got something like a 5 year 35 million dollar deal, so he's making about 3 times that.

He's also 28, and he's not going to hit the FA market until he's on the verge of 30 - an age where a huge payday will have likely passed him by.

It's just common sense to see that Thomas Jones is outplaying that contract, and there's at least some possibility that he won't be happy about it.
