RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted May 13, 2006 Spawned from the Steve Smith threads and other comments People seem to use size as a factor for WR's. I disagree in a lot of ways. While I admit there are red zone advantages to bigger receivers... I also don't think it is a necessity. What matters a whole lot more is speed and quickness, the ability to run routes, hands, and consquently the ability to get seperation and make catches. All those things are easily more important than size. Last year, with the leading TWO receivers in the league were Smith and Moss who are 5'9" and 5'10". Now while I do admit that it is a bit easier for bigger players to score more TD's... I also do have to point out that as far as fantasy is concerned... a lot of these bigger receivers don't get the easy passes that are designed for these quicker, shifty receivers. Specifically... both Moss and Smith last year had an enourmous amount of success with the little quick screens. They are able to find little creases and are a little more likely to get lost in coverages in finding soft spots in the zones. And in the end... they are not any shorter than the guys convering them. I am no saying it isn't a factor... but more saying it isn't as big of a detrimen as some here seem to be pointing out.
