famousb 11 Posted June 9, 2006 First year running an auction. Anyone with experience out there?Main question is whether we take terns nominating players, or come up with a pre-list of 150 or so players and go in order.... Please help.... Leave a link all the auctions i've seen have always been a series of nominations, going around the table... it adds a little strategy to it because you can make people spend alot of money early on some guys, and try to hide the guys you really want until a little later and maybe steal one or two... if you were going to do a list, what would you do when you got to the end of it, because i'm certain you're not all going to agree on the same 192 (16rds x 12tms) guys to be on the list
canada1 0 Posted June 9, 2006 Nominate is the way to go.... way more fun then from a list...plus as has been stated it takes a bit of strategy to decide which players to nominate
truk34 0 Posted June 9, 2006 Go with nominating. Last year I drafted Priest and hid LJ until very late in the draft. It came down to only 4 of us with any money at the end of the draft and I finally got tired and threw out LJ. I ended up getting him for $1 in a $26 keeper auction league. If we were auctioning from a list, LJ would probably have gone much earlier.
Swagger 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Nominate and have a strategy, since its the first year don't count on any auction sites to get close to your actual bids will be. A strategy could be to throw out a Tier 2 RB in to get a feel for what folks might go for. Auctions last long, so set a limit for nominations or move on to the next guy in line. Nominate the guy that your buddy has talked about all year. Drain his bank roll as quickly as possible.
uby 0 Posted June 11, 2006 I suggest nominating 2 rounds at a time, snake style. 1-12 then 12-1. That second 12-1 nomination round will go much quicker than it would if you wait until after all players from 1-12 were bought. Plus, being able to nominate two players in quick succession helps out with strategy.
HeirCoryell 0 Posted June 11, 2006 Auctions last long, This is a myth in my opinion and I wish people would stop throwing it out there as if it were the gospel. Will an auction take longer than a draft? Probably. But, I'm going to say on average it's only around 10%. So many people make it sound like switching to an auction will take all day. If you have all your ducks in a row and have a fair but firm person to be the auctioneer that extra 15 minutes is well worth it.

Most live 18 round drafts take about 1.5-2 hours to complete, while auction drafts will go roughly 3 hours in my experience.
