Shockey fan 0 Posted July 18, 2006 While there is loads of love out there for Portsi this and and maybe deservedly so - is anyone concerned in the longer term that QB Jason Campbell could cause teams to stack the line in a tough division and force a rookie Campbell to beat them? I am considering dealing Portis - I think his long term value takes a bit of a hit - curious as to your thoughts!
Toltec 0 Posted July 18, 2006 If you get decent value, in my opinion anyone can be dealt for the right price.
famousb 11 Posted July 18, 2006 If you get decent value, in my opinion anyone can be dealt for the right price. this is always a true statement... but to address your question more indepthly (i think i just made that word up). i look at what Portis did 2 years ago, his first year in WAS with Ramsey & Brunell splitting time - but more specifically w/ Ramsey playing... now granted Ramsey was no rookie, but there were still plenty of questions about his QB prowess since he really never got to learn the NFL game w/ Spurrier as his HC. 15 | 343 1315 5 | 40 235 2 were his stats for the year - which weren't too shabby. but more importantly, in 3 of the games where Ramsey was starting, Portis did this: wk13 nyg | 31 148 | 14 | 2 wk14 phi | 23 80 | 22 | 2 wk15 sfo | 35 110 | 20 | 0 those three games are pretty good in themselves, and the rest of the games he played w/ Ramsey as QB were good too. Really the only knock on him that year was that he didn't get alot of TDs - his yardage numbers were still good. Plus, Campbell was only be a rookie last year. So even if he gets the nod next season, he'll be in his 3rd year so he should've had plenty of time to adjust and get ready for the pro game level. Look at LT in SD - do you really worry about teams stacking the line since Rivers is in at QB? All it takes is one or two good passing games and teams stop the 8-in-the-box bs... 26y2k 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Even with Brunell last season, teams were stacking up against the run because they had no respect for the recievers outside of moss and late in the year Cooley. Not saying the new recievers are great but they will help the running game no matter who is under center.
Belushi 9 Posted July 18, 2006 He's young, he's got a head coach who loves to run and an offensive co-ordinator who makes stars out of his RB's. Now way I would deal him in a dynasty league. I think he's got potential to put up monster numbers in the years to come.
Polamalu43 0 Posted July 18, 2006 I think the slow development for Campbell well benefit him, allowing him to learn the game. In turn, Portis will benefit from a young QB who is a little more ready then he may be if he played last year or was expected to play this year. Portis should be fine with most QBs that end up playing in Wash. However, I do agree with the statement that anyone can be delt for the right price.
