bjlmonster 0 Posted July 29, 2006 Hey guys, I am commish of a 10 team, 3 man keeper league. We allow trading of future draft picks up to one year in advance. Some owners have had concerns about this. I support trading as long as collusion is not involved and we have restrictions in place to avoid last place dumping their guys to second place, etc., so no worries there. Last year we had a new owner trade his 2006 2nd round pick for a player he wanted. Now, as we search for his replacement, he leaves the new owner short 1 pick. What are some ideas, if any, to stop owners from trading their picks and bailing or at least to make it easier to recruit new owners to a team who is already short draft picks? pacman_fl 0 Posted July 29, 2006 Don't know if it will help yet, but I am setting up an agenda for a pre-seaon meeting on a new Dynasty league. In the agenda I am including this statement - That being said – if it obvious that someone is building a “one and done” team, I will hold out $75 of any payout you are due in order to insure your “return” or to recruit somebody else. I understand commitments change and we may lose an owner here or there, but be upfront as soon as you know you can’t continue. If I have to replace owners, the team will be “for sale” to the best bidder I can find. This often includes a reduced entry fee or additional picks in the yearly draft. Be aware that I will make whatever moves are necessary to keep the league solid and to protect the owners. This outlines what steps can/will be taken. As a commish, that's about all you can do. It sucks for the other owners, but I think you have to keep the league together at whatever cost. I will be curious, also, to see what others are doing. pacman_fl 0 Posted July 30, 2006 I forgot this in previous post. I have seen many leagues requiring current year fees + 1 year ahead at all time in an attempt to keep people from bolting.
RumbleReady 0 Posted July 30, 2006 Require payment for following year for trading any picks in third round or higher.
Yippie Skippy 0 Posted July 30, 2006 In my leagues we are not allowed to trade 1, 2, 3 round picks. It is much fairer to whoever takes over the vacated team than paying even a lesser amount for a team not likely to compete the first year.
