Coach Marvin Lewis didn't know when Thurman would report for camp, adding, "And I'm not concerned with that." The Bengals were notified last week that the second-year linebacker will be suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He is eligible to participate in training camp and play in preseason games. Asked if the Bengals want Thurman in camp, Lewis said, "Yes, we do. But he's dealing with some things with his family, and they'd asked that he be allowed to do this. There's no pressing need of time for him to be here, so we're allowing him to do this." Thurman also missed the Bengals' minicamp last month, with the team's permission. Lewis wouldn't talk about his plans for Thurman, at one point saying disdainfully, "If you want to be in charge of him, you're welcome." Lewis will decide how much Thurman practices and if he'll play in the preseason games. That Marvin Lewis really knows how to handle problem football players doesn't he? Good thing he is stocking up on them. I liken that comment to that of a parent that has no control over his kid's bad behavior...kinda like you can take him of my hands. Sure, Marvin doesn't care that your best linebacker (and one of the best young LBs in the entire NFL) is a druggy and isn't in camp and will miss the first 4 regular season games.....sure, nice spin with the "experienced veteran" talk. I guess Thurman just ain't that good if Marvin doesn't care he is gone. Just cut him cause you have the experience Brian Simmons ready to take over, I don't even know why Cincy drafted him.
