akaoni 0 Posted July 31, 2006 BarberPerry L.White Dayne Davenport Barlow Duckett I see you're still pondering the backups frank. Well, factoring talent, potential production, and likelyhood of PT. I would say: 1) R. Dayne (Den)Runs in the Denver system, and finally has a scheme which can highlight his talents (or cover his lack thereof). Gets the #1 ranking mainly because he will see more sure touches than any other back listed here, and he's in a Denver system which can make Mike Anderson into a starting fantasy back. 2) M. Barber (Dal) A favorite of Parcells, should pick up the job once the injury-prone J. Jones goes down in Dallas, and may never give the job back. A tough runner who has shown he can produce when given the chance. 3) C. Perry (Cin) Explosive talented back who can do it all. Gets 3rd down touches and spot duty behind Rudi. If given the chance could explode. 4) K. Barlow (S.F) To be honest, I don't know where to rank this guy. He apparently came into camp in better shape, and has always been thought of a back with some ability. Unfortunately, he plays in S.F., where points have been few and far between, and has underacheived his whole career. For that reason, I'll stick him right in the middle. 5) T.J. Duckett (Atl) Trade rumors have swirlled around Duckett this year, but he remains a TD hawk who should get goal line opportunities again this season. He's solid, but could loose a few touches from Jerious Norwood. 6) L. White (Ten) I'm not as high on White as others are, and with not one, but two backs to compete with for P.T., we can't be sure of how many opportunities he'll be given. Add that to the fact that he was injured and out of shape in the off season, and there are plenty of reasons to doubt Lendale will put up quality numbers this year. In his favor, he was a battering ram at USC, and could be a solid power back in the NFL if he is willing to do the work... 7) N. Davenport (G.B.) Najeh has shown flashes of brilliance when he's carried the ball, I'm not sure how much faith you can put in a back up RB who can't stay healthy. Add that to the fact that G.B. looks like a team that's moving the wrong way on the offensive side of the ball and I'll pass on Davenport.
akaoni 0 Posted July 31, 2006 This news might bump Lendale up my list a spot.
Belushi 9 Posted August 1, 2006 I like Akaoni's list. But I'd bump White up to the second spot behind Dayne. The big difference is the Denver O-line is good, and the Titan's sucks. But if you're not counting on injuries (which is risky to predict), I think White has the best shot to produce behind Dayne. Of course, if Rudi or Julius go down with injuries this year, Perry and Barber shoot to the top of the list.
