Lumpdawg 0 Posted August 1, 2006 We are trying to run an auction draft, but we're not real sure how it works. For those much more experienced, what type of spending cap would you install? How exactly does the auction draft work? Do you draft just a starting line-up and make the reserves open to a waiver wire? I've read the auction draft is the most fun. Thanks for your help. cerberus9090 0 Posted August 1, 2006 Our league has a weird combination of regular and auction draft. Two rounds of regular selection. Each player is assigned a cap value, and when you pick him, he is yours for that value. On the third round the auction starts, and all preditermined values are irrelevant. When it is your turn, you name a player. The starting value is 5. Then each owner has a chance to bid on the player. Each bid raises the value by 10 points. So if you throw out player A, and I am next, and I bid, the value is now 15 points. If noone raises after me, I keep the player for 15 points against my cap. However, we give the advantage to the owner that names the player. We do that by allowing the owner that initiated the player to only raise by one point. So if you say Player A, I raise to 15 points, you can then raise to 16 if noone else bids and it comes back to you. If I want to raise, I have to raise by 10 again. Its confusing, probably, if you've never done it, but it makes the draft very exciting. Much more strategy. Even if you do not want a player, you might still want to bid so that the other person wastes more cap space. Also, if you are low on cap space, you have to start looking for better values, not necessarily the best player, but a good player you can get cheap without high bidding. I strongly reccoment auctions. It doesnt have to be as complicated as ours, but its fun even when simple. Hope that helps
