12 Team Keeper League Question

Recommended Posts

I'm in a 12 team keeper league and have already turned in my 2 keepers:

Cadillac - $4.25

Tiki Barber - $4.75

Here's the thing - we auction for players with a $50 salary cap. Typically the top 3 RB's go for over $20 while the minimum players (kickers, def, etc.) will go for $0.50. We need a starting lineup of:

QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, K, DEF

and total roster of 16.

At this point, should I go into the draft looking for a solid #1 RB still or should I just focus on WR and QB? Furthermore, do I spend for a #1 at any position or just try to have well rounded decent players to ensure average players throughout my depth?

A little advice please?

Tiki is a solid #1 RB...the only way you'll get a better one is to take one of the big 3. I'd go for WR's and QB's, then depth at RB later on. There are some good bargain RB's this year, all have Question marks, but if you cash in on the right one you're golden.

I'd definitely go for a top WR at this point.

Although I've never played in a salary cap league, it sounds like you should have plenty of money to splurge a bit on a top flight WR, and still have some left for solid players.

Caddy and Barber should be great for you this season. If you could add somebody like Chad Johnson, Boldin, Fitz, Steve Smith, or Holt I think you'd be in great shape.

Thanks for your reply to my question.

Cap leagues are fun since there's so much more strategy involved. You'll spend as much time analyzing your opponents as you will your own team.

That said, I agree with taking a WR early. You might be looking at a great steal if other owners are dropping $20+ on RBs. Scan your league and see who's already been kept or who you ~think~ they'll keep...its usually not that hard to guess and that should really help you determine which way to go. Pretty standard best value pick, really. If you can steal PManning at a low price, no sense in missing out on that, ya know?

Knowing...or thinking you know...what the other owners might want to do should really help you in strategy of driving up the prices on those RBs you don't really need anyway. Just hope you don't get stuck. Draft position is always important too, of course.
