Idea for huge leagues

Recommended Posts

This idea is for those leagues with enough dedicated owners where you don't have new people coming in and out.

Have any of you with large leagues thought of splitting them into 2 separate leagues and running them like the English Premiership soccer league (or German Bundesliga and Regionaliga) where the two (or three or whatever) worst teams in the Primary league move down to the Secondary league and the two (or three...) best teams from the Secondary league move up to the Primary league.

Sure there may be the initial problem of deciding who to put in each league to start with, but you could just use the previous year's standings, and this would work great for those who would like a little more talent on their teams.

That would be cool. Seperate 20 to 24 teams into 2 leagues w/ 10 to 12 teams in each. After week 7; the top 5 or 6 teams from both leagues move on; redaft into one league and continue play from there. The bottom redraft also; but play for less of a pot of $$$.

nah. FFball is about sticking it out with the team you drafted. That's half the fun.

Nah, that wasn't really my idea, though it's an okay idea in itself.

My idea:

Say you have a league of 24 teams. Let's say each team puts in $250 to the pot, total of $6000.

Season 1, start with 24 teams - top 12 go to league A, bottom 12 go to league B.

Season 2 -

Say everyone pays $250.

You could have $5000 go to League A, where say half the league - playoff teams - get a payout (because it is more competitive), and only $1000 goes to League B, where only the top 2 or 3 get a payout because it's less competitive.

League A - 1st - $2000, 2nd $1000, 3rd $500, all playoff teams get $250

League B - 1st - $750, 2nd $250

This should be okay because going into season 1, everyone had an equal opportunity to get into League A.

Season 3 -

Top 2 or 3 from League B move up to League A.

Bottom 2 or 3 from League A move down to League B.

So, this way, there's a little more talent to go around because you're only drafting in a 12 team league, but all 24 teams are still connected. Also, it keeps everyone interested until the end, because everyone would likely prefer to be in the top league

i think it would be better than having just a striaght 24 team with 2 divisions

you might run into problems with whiners being dropped down competing for less money though
