k9tofive 0 Posted August 26, 2006 I like the idea of tiering players, but its application seems arbitrary at best. Does anyone have a statistical method they use to determine the tier levels instead of something arbitrary like "1 point per game?" Playing around with AVT over the past three years I have gotten the following equation for WR: P = -2.2553R + 139.28 P= projected 2006 points R= Rank For example: the 12th ranked WR in my league is expected to score [-2.2553*12] + 139.28= ~112 points I am wondering if the slop (-2.26) is useful, or COULD be useful in figuring it out. Or maybe I am just completly over anal-izing because I am eager to draft and have nothing left to do. . .
bjlmonster 0 Posted August 26, 2006 I like to keep it simple. I set my tiers at 16 FF points on fftoday's draft buddy. Before, I just arbitrarily set the line on my personal rankings based on my feelings for those players. Who would I consider an elite #1 WR on top tier, tier #2 is who I would want as a solid #1 FF WR, tier #3 are guys I shoot for as my #2 WR, and so on. shake_a_leg 0 Posted August 26, 2006 I always get a chuckle out of the algebra equations that some guys do to figure out who to draft...it makes me think that either I'm not near serious enough about fantasy football, or some people are just waaaay too serious about fantasy football. That said, this equation doesn't seem to work for me. Then again, it's been a few years since I've had any math classes.... If the numerical values are constant and the only variable is the player ranking, your top WR would have a total of ~137 and your 12th WR would have a total of ~112. This is less than 3 points per position and since it's a constant slope, I don't see where any "tiers" would be formed from the calculation.

I agree. Thats why I made the disclaimer at the end. I probably should have noted that my league has 1pt/20ReYds and 6pts/TD. No PPR.
