Just finished my Keeper Draft, 9 Spot 12 Teamer

Start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 RB/WR, 1TE, D, 1K

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.09 Steven Jackson: I'm not that high on him, but I like him more than R.Brown or Caddy. I would have taken Jordan but he was taken at 1.6

 

2.04 Chad Johnson: First WR off the board, if Palmer misses time it will only be game 1. I think this is going to be a career year for him. I'm a huge Carolina fan and passing up Smith was hard, but I think I made the right move.

 

3.09 Willie Parker: Somehow this dude dropped to me, I was thrilled and I don't think the timer went down more than 1 second.

 

4.04 Plaxico Burress: I just missed out on Chambers 2 picks before, not thrilled with this pick but I feel I make up for it in the next pick.

 

5.09 Javon Walker: I wanted him in the 4th but I thought it was too early, but when it was swinging back to me I kept thinking I had made a mistake, luckily he still made it here. I know he wouldn't have made it back around again.

 

6.04 Daunte Culpepper: With all of the weapons in Miami I expect him to have a huge year. I was very comfortable taking him here.

 

7.09 Chris Brown: I was shocked to see him still around at this point, and I jumped on him for spot duty if he can stay healthy.

 

8.04 LenDale White: See Chris Brown staying healthy. Hopefully he will be the primary backup in Titans land.

 

9.09 Derrick Mason: With McNair throwing the ball I expect Mason to have another good year, at this point I'm really happy with my WR corp.

 

10.04 Dallas Clark: McMichael was my real target here, but he went one pick before me, bastards.

 

11.09 Kevan Barlow: Once again I was stunned to see a starting RB drop this far, I had been burned by him in the past but at 11, it won't me much more than a sting.

 

12.04 Reggie Brown: Yet another WR, and someone has to catch some balls at wideout for Philly.

 

13.09 Jerious Norwood: This guy could very well be one of my 3 keepers come next year.

 

14.04 Steve McNair: A very solid backup QB.

 

15.09 Jeb Putzier: If Davis has problems staying on the field this year I expect to see Putz become the escape valve.

 

16.04 Jerricho Cotchery: At this point I'm snagging people who I think will be serviceable fill in's or potential break out players. He had a great career at NCState.

 

17-20 Dallas D, Ryan Longwell, Matt Leinart, Dominique Bird.

 

 

Overall I think I did pretty well, would love some comments.

 

Ending lineup would look like this:

QB: Culpepper

RB: SJax, Parker

Flex: C.Brown or J. Walker

WR: Johnson, Burress

TE: Clark

D: Dallas

K: Longwell

Wr's Look good... I like Jackson think you need some RB depth hopefully Brown or White Will emerge..... I cant see brown healthy all year.. Dante could be a steal looks good and has alot of weapons..

First of all I hate to start up the bandwagon but how do you get an option of Sjax, Ronnie, Cadillac at 1.09 of a KEEPER league? With 4 point passing td's and the need to start only 2 wideouts plus a wr/rb flex spot that is ridiculous. You also state you took first WR at 2.04 so who the hell got drafted 1-8? Big 3, Edge, Tiki, Jordan........I guess Rudi and Maybe Portis? Odd to say the least. Great first pick but I greatly prefer Ronnie.

 

Chad Johnson is a solid pick, but Smith/Holt would have been better IMO. Still can't argue the pick.

 

In round three your horrid competition hands you a full time starter at RB with pick 33.......wow. Nice pick.

 

Round 4 nice pick I think you will be happy.

 

5 how is Walker around here?

 

Anyway overall this is a competitive 12 man team, not great though. If you only have to start 2 WR and there is a rb/wr flex I personally would almost always go RB/RB since everyone is going to try and draft three to fill up the flex. You could have passed on CJ and gotten a solid back along the lines of Dunn (better probably but haven't seen your board) and then still gotten parker in third. Then you would have 3 starting backs in lineup plus Walker/Burress at WR but thats neither here nor there. Nice late picks with Barlow and Norwood good job overall.

Nicely done. You ought to compete this season, and look pretty decent for future seasons. I would probably have taken Ronnie Brown, but that's me. I'm not a big SJax fan.

 

To answer your questions about how Barlow and others fell to you, it's probably because others in your league were looking for youth and upside - you appear to be building to win now, which is fine - just remember to be dynamic. If a young up & comer at RB is there (Jerius Norwood, for example, Dunn's backup and a young stud with a 30+ RB in front of him) dump Barlow and go grab him up for the future.

 

CPep might have a couple decent seasons left in him, and Walker is a good value pick as well. I like a lot of your players. Not the strongest 12 team league roster I've seen, but it's a very good one. You should do well.

 

 

Might want to invest more in youth next season though to help you with future longevity.

 

Curious where guys like Matt Lienart and Jay Cutler went...you ought to think about making some sort of move for one of them, as CPep isn't the future.

Thanks man. Yeah, some people made some boneheaded choices in round one. The big 3 went then it was Tiki, Manning, Jordan, Brady (Poor sod was late to his PC and auto picked on him, no remorse!), Rudi and the my SJax pick. Though neither of the backs that I really wanted dropped to me, Rudi and Lamont. I always have a hard time biting the bullet on second year RBs this high in a draft, ala Caddy and Ronnie Brown. They both had decent years last year, but neither of them really wowed me. So that left me looking at either Portis and SJax, Portis scares me with that shoulder so I went with what I thought might be the safer pick. Looking back now I'm happy with SJax, only 1 year more in the pros than Caddy and Brown so still young.

I targeted Norwood and snagged him in the 13th, one of my favorite picks of the draft. Next year I could be looking at SJax, Norwood and Chad Johnson as my 3 Keepers, which would make me very happy. That Norwood kid has come out of nowhere, atleast to me, he seems to run with a chip on his shoulder and hits his first cut hard, which is perfect in the Falcons system.

I actually stole Leinart in the next to last round of the draft. Why people question that guy is beyond me. You don't have to have a cannon for an arm to be a great QB. Vick comes to mind, huge arm, no touch. Doesn't matter how fast and you get it there if it never actually gets "there".
