watching NFL games in Europe

Recommended Posts

I have to relocate to Germany in October of this year for 2-3 years. Does anyone have any experience watching NFL games from Germany? I have been told so far that I will need to purchase a different TV and a satellite thru the UK but I find that to be a costly option as I don't really watch anything else throughout the year. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's an idea, buy a slingbox and ask a family member to tivo the games. Then connect to the slingbox on their tv and watch the games when you wake up europe time.

I spent a year in Ireland (much different from Germany as far as TV programming goes) and they showed both Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Football games each week live. They started around 12 noon. Which was great for Sunday but Monday was hard to catch. The hardest thing was finding someone else to watch the games with.

This slingbox thing is an interesting idea since I will have a good computer at my disposal. Are you very familiar with this technology? Can I watch the games live from a satellite back in the states via a broadband connection? If I can watch those games then could someone watching the TV that I have the slingbox connected to in the states be able to watch other channels? I could just see me trying to do this from my brothers satellite service and he would keep changing the channel to some random reality show to screw with me.

I think that is the draw back, you are in control of the TV when using the slingbox. If the timing was such that the games were on off hours, it probably wouldn't be a problem with conflicts. The other thing is that it interfaces with Tivo very well, so if yout brother Tivo's the games, you could watch at your convenience, off hours for him.
