This is our Dynasty IDP Draft through middle of the fourth round.

Before your jaw drops about RBs like Ray Rice or Jamaal Charles dropping to the mid third, realize the salary cap hit for early RBs, especially rounds one and two , is extremely prohibitive. Two owners that separately drafted RB Chris Henry and RB Brandon Jackson in R1 last year paid dearly with huge cap hits that they now cannot unload.

So you are saying that Rookie RBs have a premium placed on them? So a WR selected 1.5 would cost less than a RB? That seems odd.

Per your question: No, its not a matter of randomly picking out RBs and penalizing those who draft them with big cap hits.

Its a complex system but its applied uniformally to all positions. It is based purely on percentage (40/30/20%) of the top salaries of the existing veteran contracts per position, and then according to the round where the rookies are drafted. So, in our league, the top 10 veteran RBs are paid an average of $11M per year, therefore a rookie RB in round 1 would get 40% of that, about $5.5M .. THe WRs are not as high, their top 10 average is $8M, and so on. LBs are about $4.5M for the tops. QBs are same.

Got you. Our salaries are purely performance based. We use multipliers based on FF points scored in the previous seasons with an injury exception in which case we use an average seasonal production. The rookies come in at a flat rate which drops with each pick until the minimum is met after round 2 is complete. Rounds 3-4 come in at the league min.
