Farmer John's Smoked Sausage - 12 pack, Hot Louisiana - review

Recommended Posts

These were on sale at Safeway, for $5. These are not hot dogs, these are fully cooked and smoked sausages and still 42 ounces. Divide that by 12 .... these are big sausages.

You got, per dog:

27g of fat, 10 of that is saturated

15mg of cholesterol

850 mg of sodium

12g protein

Health food ... No. Expensive ... No. Tasty .... Yes.

So much more flavor than a standard hot dog. It's got that nice snap in the skin. They come precooked, so all you really need to do is heat them to the temperature you would like, but in this case I cooked them on a skillet with a little beer. Just a splash ... and the. i served them ... To myself and drunk uncle, who could only eat one, on a roll with some grainy mustard.

These do have some spice to them, and at the normal $12 a dozen, I would not buy them, but at $5, I almost want to go back and get more and freeze them. Yer talkin, under 50 cents per link, and these do cook up real nice.

I may be drunk ... But ... First time ever ....

5 stars

What I've done is I bought some fresh buns. Not your standard crap ass buns, these will be stale in 8 hours. Fed drunk uncle, had a few myself ... Feelin dizzy and tired now.

I nuked a half of one to test it in bread and with cheese. Bread seemed chewy. Then I tested the bread alone and even without microwaving, it was chewey, raw. So, I gotcha. Have you ever heard of a sandwich that you eat with a knife and fork because it's covered in gravy and mash potatoes? My Dad used to call that a "Roast Beef Manhatan" as if it was something special. That's about right, for cheep white bread. Wont really hold anything.

Cheap white bread, is good for grilled cheese samitchez. With soup.

Ok. This is what I have determined. It,s difficult to get the right kind of burn on these where the outer casing breaks and becomes edible. I have resorted to cooking them thawed in a toaster oven.

There's something about the fluffy white hot dog bun, that I love. I was having them with some good German mustard ... Hardcore stuff, and then ... American cheese slices .. on a white, wonder bread hotdog bun .. like 15 seconds in the microwave ... better than good mustard.

I could try ... and I know this sounds crazy but work with me .... both mustard, and cheese.

It's against all hotdog standards, and it's not even a hotdog, it's a Lousiana Hot Link.

Sorry ... Reducing to 4 stars due to casing issues. Prolly not an issue on the grill. These need some char.

Great price though, good flavor. Way better than like Bar S. Hotdogs, which taste like pig snouts and testicle meat.

I went there. Cheese and mustard. Not for everyone but .... why not, right? Someone had to have the balls to go there.
