#6355584 Cowboys at Eagles: In-Game Discussion

Posted by sirensong on 11 November 2018 - 08:32 PM

I absolutely cannot root for a cowboys loss, even knowing that it would help in the long run.

but it would be the most jason garrett thing ever to beat phi in their house out of desperation, resulting in no one getting fired and an even worse draft pick.

Thinking about switching to become a Chiefs fan.  Only live 3 hours from KC, already been a life long Royals fan, Mahomes is freaking awesome, and I've seen the Chiefs live this year, never been to a Cowboys game.  Dallas Cowboys organization is a joke.

remember, the chiefs were the original dallas franchise.  i don't feel one bit bad about rooting for them.

i'm also dez-wagoning the saints.

And the Atom Bomb of the day, the news that will sink this franchise for another 8 years if true: Jerry said he WILL extend Dak.

this.  i understand why he refused to talk about a coaching change, because it would undermine everything.  but the definite extension talk was completely unnecessary, and had the ring of pure jerry honesty.

tyron, frederick, martin, zeke, cooper, lee, jaylon, Dlaw, etc. all just found out that they will never reach a SB.

#6341269 Amari Cooper traded to Cowboys

Posted by sirensong on 23 October 2018 - 12:51 PM

plenty of additional analysis is coming out, as DAL fans try to sort out the ramifications of the deal.   this story: https://www.blogging...pick-for-dallas starts digging into the idea of cooper as the cowboys' 2019 1st round pick, and it raises some interesting arguments.

-WR draft picks are the least reliable, with more busts than any other position.

-rookie WRs almost never make major contributions right away, and it normally takes 3 years to fully develop. the post claims that this is why the patriots trade picks for established WRs instead of drafting their own.

-the top of the 2019 rookie WR class is not very good.  it's a deep draft, but little high-end talent.

-cooper will almost certainly outperform any '19 or '20 rookie WR during those years, and for some time thereafter.

the conclusion that follows from this is that if DAL wanted to add a WR1, this deal was much more efficient, with less risk, than drafting a rookie with the same pick.

True - although I simply don't see Dak as a legit #1 starter in the NFL - under any circumstance.

But back to Red - this game was a microcosm of his entire tenure. Poor decision making in critical parts of a game - playing not lose.. A perennial .500 HC, on the road, knowing Philly and NY had already lost - refusing to take the fight to the other team and refusing to go out and win a game. .. Like seriously, what was it he was afraid of?

If my HC plays scares and chokes in Week 5 of the season, against a 1-3 team - I've no use for him. And damn sure wouldn't trust him in a playoff game. (as we've seen before too)

we've argued about JG for a long time, but you were right and i was wrong.

i respected the teambuilding and motivation he brought, but it's obvious now that those are the only arrows in his quiver.  he simply doesn't have anything to offer in terms of tactics or strategy.  worse, he doesn't recognize those shortcomings, and therefore refuses to address them by bringing in creative schemers and delegating to them.  he doesn't have to be a master tactician or strategist--eisenhower wasn't one either.  but eisenhower recognized that, and made use of guys like patton and macarthur.

but at the end of the day, it comes down to what you do when the pressure is on.  garrett folds.

i'm done with the guy.

Yeah, thats about it too. A revamp is required. Im not sold on Prescott anymore either. Seems to be regressing like RG3 or some of the other QBs that started great but quickly fell off. Its not just him though. They have NO weapons in the passing game. No one scares any defense. Its all Zeke and thats it. The defense is actually decent but cant carry the team. Dallas has .500 talent and coaching and will therefore finish right around .500.

dak hasn't improved--hasn't progressed.  he can make some good plays at times, but after 36 starts, he doesn't appear to be capable of consistently orchestrating the offense without dominant OL and RB play.

#6315215 Women on NFL telecasts.............................................

Posted by sirensong on 21 September 2018 - 01:08 AM

i don't have a problem with women football broadcasters in general, and as pointed out above, several NFL sideline reporters do excellent work.  but the ESPN PbP woman is just bad.  she's merely a token in a completely transparent SJW move as ESPN does some brand maintenance following years of bad behavior.  there are maybe 10 national broadcast teams, atop a pyramid of thousands of college and radio broadcast teams, and somehow this woman with no quals or demonstrated talent skips to the head of the list so ESPN can virtue signal.  it's a farce.

find a woman who doesn't suck at it, and i'll revisit the issue.

#6312254 Hot Waiver Watch...Dan Bailey...

Posted by sirensong on 18 September 2018 - 12:18 AM

Bailey's history in kicking accurate has always been near the top of the NFL and at 30 years old he is still in his prime.

i don't understand how people can post things like this.  i mean, the stats are right here on the internet for anyone to see.

league rank by FG%, minimum 10 attempts:

so only 3 years in the top 5, trending down for 2 straight years, baffling misses from inside 50 during TC, and still the 6th highest cap number from what was--at signing--the highest kicker contract in the league.

i hated to see him go, but cutting him was a very reasonable choice.

dont want to see this thread go away, its what i live for these days. i may just type the F word like 60 times and get my account shut down

yeah, i can't believe that mike hasn't shut it down, or at least moved it.  IMO this is the best kind of thread--topic creep that keeps things interesting, while we all rant at each other over politics.  won't last into the preseason, but during the long, dry season between minicamp and TC, it keeps things lively.

Oh, I couldn't care less if you respect me or not, I have no idea who you are.  That said, I've never once heard a Democrat ever speak towards the ideals I believe in.  Although, I did vote for Bill Clinton the second time.  He wanted less government, a wall along the border, and more states rights.  Outside of that, I don't ever remember a Democrat agenda worth supporting.

to be fair, since trump was elected, suddenly leftists are suddenly all excited about states rights and limiting the power of federal government...which will last right up until a democrat gets elected, at which point they will flip back to their original position.

the left has no problem with tyranny, so long as they get to be in charge.

Crazy huh? This has to be the biggest overhaul of a WR corps I've ever seen in a year. If Williams goes that leaves only Cole Beasley & Noah Brown remaining from last year.

yep.  it's very similar to letting their entire defensive backfield walk last season.  pundits were saying it would be the end of the world, but DAL got the last laugh--now everyone is saying that the youth movement was a great move.

and here we go again at a different position group, and all the pundits are saying the same thing they had to walk back the last time they said it.

Terrance (aka T-Flub, T-Dud) Williams.

My disdain for this ass clown is long chronicled, well documented here. So with his latest blunder - what does this mean for Dallas? He almost certainly gets suspended, although I guess he could tie this up with appeals for a while... He's on the book thru 2020, with a potential Dead Money hit of $7.25m this year, $2.5m in 2019, $1.5m in 2020.... I don't see how Jerry cuts bait now, not for a $7m hit this year - but bet the farm his ass is gone in 2019.

I know of the risks of playing rookies, but I'd love to see Gallup get a shot... At the very least with a significant role if not starter altogether... And I look for a WR to be taken in the 1st round next year - that I can maybe live with.

well, thornton got cut last season despite having an fully guaranteed salary, and dez's dead money number this season is far worse than it would have been next year.  i forget who came up with this metaphor, but recently DAL is ripping off the band-aid.  in addition, i believe that if he is suspended, all guaranteed money gets voided.

long story short, it's a really crowded WR room (10 under contract) with a new coach and a bunch of new talent.  i'd say there's definitely a chance that he's gone.

I just now heard T.O.'s comments on Garrett... Holy cow does he blasts his ass - and rightfully so... Say what you will about Owens - he nailed it on Red.

yeah, for once, i agreed with owens.

#6210608 G-Men: P-L-E-A-S-E don't pull a "Browns"-type move ..

Posted by sirensong on 27 April 2018 - 02:28 PM

typical giants eyes-closed heave into triple coverage.  they're going all-in on eli, knowing that if he fails, barkley will keep them up around at least 8-8 (and therefore unable to draft a premuim QB).

brilliant team management.  cowboys fans rejoice.
