Waivers -- who to drop to claim Williamson?

Recommended Posts

One of the other players in my 12-player redraft league has waived Troy Williamson to pick up Samkon Gado. This guy drafted Williamson at 16.10 of this IDP league right before I was going to grab him.

I'm in position to claim him off waivers, but I have a bit of a dilemma. I like all of my receivers either for what I project them to produce or for their potential. I'm thin at RB, but think that waiving my 4th RB at this point is preferable to one of my four WR's. My league is an IDP league, equal points for passing/rushing yards and TD's, with the following positions:

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, D, D, D, D, BN, BN, BN, BN

Here is my roster:

QBs

Eli Manning

Leftwich

RBs

Cadillac Williams

Kevin Jones

LenDale White

Mike Anderson

WRs

Chad Johnson

Roy Williams

Matt Jones

Donte Stallworth

TEs

Jason Witten

Ben Watson

DEF

Mike Peterson

Antonio Pierce

Will Witherspoon

Derrick Johnson

K

Longwell

For an IDP league with so many starters, we have a VERY thin bench. As you can see, my RB depth in particular is bad -- especially with Anderson 2nd or 3rd and LenDale a distant 3rd. I'm basically considering two options:

1. Drop LenDale and pick up Williamson. Soon trade one of my WR's for an RB who gets some carries.

2. Drop Leftwich and pick up Williamson. When Eli's waiver week comes up, decide who to cut to pick up a QB.

As of now, I've dropped LenDale and added Williamson. However, my waiver claim doesn't go active til 9/7, so I have some time to change the move. Would you drop Leftwich instead, and monitor the Titans' RB situation for a rew weeks? Would you drop M. Anderson instead? Would you skip out on Troy Williamson off WAIVERS altogether? Would you drop one of the other WR's?

The biggest complicating factor for me is the fact that there is much better QB depth on the wire than RB depth. I might be better off dropping Leftwich now, and reclaiming him when necessary or grabbing Kitna, Favre, Brooks, Simms etc. as a backup when needed. The real problem here is that my league has 13 starters and 4 bench spots :(

Leave a link and I'll reply to your thread. Sorry for the long post, but I like to clearly explain my thought process to get a better answer.

First off, thanks for answering my post. I appreciate it.

I would drop Leftwich if there is better QB depth on the WW. Another possibility would be to make a trade, but that might be difficult to pull off before the WW selection. You could package Witten/MJones for an upgrade at TE or WR (plus a thrown in), drop the throw in and pick up Williamson. At then you don't have to drop someone with value - you trade up and discard the crap.

Williamson is a downgrade from all of your WRs so why would you want him at all? That, and who's the idiot who signed Gado? I think he should be kicked out of your league. Someone may want to tell him that Gado is THIRD on the GB depth chart. LMFAO

Don't talk so soon....Noah Herron is actually #2 on the depth chart, so learn your facts before you comeback with the trash talk. Here you go "jackass" http://www.packers.com/team/depth_chart/

Thanks for the replies everyone. By the way, not that this Gado argument is stirring, but the overall point is moot. I was wrong -- my league rival dropped Williamson to pick up Doug Gabriel, not Gado. It was someone else who picked up Gado in a waiver move the same day.
