War Ensemble 0 Posted November 21, 2006 I'm in a 12 team standard keeper league. Added feature is the fact that you can keep rookies that you acquired in the draft or through a trade. You may keep up to 4 rookie keepers and 1 regular keeper. I'm currently tied for 5th with 3 weeks left to play and 4 playoff spots. Anyway, as you can see by my roster below, the injury to Portis hasn't done my RB strength any favors. I traded up to first overall this year in order to be able to draft Portis, since LT2, LJ, Tiki, Edge, SJax (RK), Caddy (RK), R. Brown (RK) are already keepers. To make a long story short, I received a trade offer from a team no longer in contention that offered T. Bell (RK), M. Bell (RK) and S. Smith for C. Portis, B. Berrian and Reuben Droughns. Tatum Bell, drafted in 04 and Mike Bell, drafted in 06, both qualify as rookie keepers, so I would be able to keep them on my roster beyond this season. Smith, with his production and age, might also be worth keeping as my regular keeper in 07. Here's the thing though, I really like Portis, and I envisioned him being the centerpiece of my squad for years to come. Obviously the Bells and Steve Smith would help me out in a big way in my quest for a first playoff appearance since joining the league. I just don't want to give up Portis, but obviously he isn't going to help me any more this year. What should I do? Thanks.
Yahoo Wahoo 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Ah, dude, I love keeper leagues, they make matters so much more interesting, and you do have a situation. Frankly, I would say, "no" to that trade. you are getting the time splitting bells and it seems apparent that you don't have them on your team or you would know how much trouble it is to be psychic and choose which one will be playing which week successfully. With Tatum currently out and Mike getting the ups and downs from Shannahan (sp?). They are both trouble. Steve Smith is the bomb, however. But look at what you are giving up: Portis and Berrian. Sorry but Portis is much better (and more fun to cheer for) than the bells combined. Also, Berrian is freaky good, too. Yes, he's hurt and I don't even know if he's going to come back (not on my team) but he's good too. Finally I don't know much about Droughns, except that I wouldn't do the trade if it were just Portis and Berrian. Now, if you can get Steve Smith and keep Portis, perhaps a one for one with Berrian, that would benefit you this season and probably a couple more in the future. Portis does seem to get hurt a lot, and that is bad, but he is also really good. The bells aren't worth it. That's my 2 cents. mgm32 0 Posted November 21, 2006 I agree. The Bells arent worth it. Hit or miss in that system. No one is ever a franchise RB in Denver. Just plug in a name and let them run. See mine. http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.p...howtopic=255077
War Ensemble 0 Posted November 21, 2006 I forgot to add an important bit of info; In order to keep T. Bell and M. Bell I would only have to give up my 16th and 17th round picks in next years draft and beyond for as long as want to keep them. Regular keepers cost you your 1st round pick. Thanks guys. Beyond Chaos 75 Posted November 21, 2006 In my opinion, I'd probably do the trade. I really don't like Portis, he was one of those plug and play Denver backs. That's not what I don't like about him though, what I don't like is that he gets injured at least twice a season. The reason I would make the trade is mainly for Steve Smith.
