joshc 0 Posted August 7, 2007 First time user and still sorting through the product. First, can someone explain to me the significance of the "Value" column in the Overall rankings on the Cheatsheets? Second, I'm still trying to figure out how best to use the various Ranking Methods and custom baselines, despite having read some of the posts on this topic. Mike, is there somewhere that you explain the methodology behind each rankings method? And if the Compiler is already taking into account my league settings, which award 0.5 PPR and are heavy on yardage, would there be any reason to make further custom adjustments to the baseline factors? Thanks!

Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 8, 2007 There isn't really a need to change the overall ranking method and baselines, but the options are there because some people like to change them. The reason I called the default overall ranking method "recommended" is because it is the one I recommend. I'm know I'm sarcastic most of the time, but in this case, I am trying to be on the level with you guys. As for what the Value column means on the overall rankings, it is essentially the methodology in the Compiler to determine the overall rankings, which is not based purely on the fantasy points from highest to lowest. I'm sure there have been some other posts on this. Let me see what I can find.
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 8, 2007 This is from the FAQ: Q. How do the Overall Rankings / Custom Baselines options work? A. The overall rankings and custom baseline options are used to adjust the comparison player of each position from which the player values are calculated for the overall rankings. Essentially, they are two different ways to put more or less emphasis on certain positions, which will increase or decrease the positions’ value in the overall rankings. Here is an example of how the comparison player is determined: In a 12 team league with 1 QB starter and 2 RB starters and using the last starter overall ranking method gives us a comparison QB of the 12th QB, and a comparison RB of the 24th RB. The "recommended" methods are not as simple as last starter or last drafted, but rather apply some pre-set custom baseline adjustments to various positions to try to account for position scarcity and risk by weighting some positions more valuable (i.e. RB) and some positions less valuable (i.e. K) relative to each other. For more on this, go to the Advanced Features page and scroll down to the section Overall Ranking Methods for more insight. Does that clarify things?
