A year ago already? What a sad day that was. I didn't care for Kirk's politics but I had no issues with how he went about his business. He was trying to do the right things and seemed genuine. No political violence is acceptable.

I was the operator and chief engineer of a satellite uplink truck. Part of that was doing pretty much anything necessary to create a successful shot, whether it be audio engineering, camera work, even occasional light editing. Lots of troubleshooting. But the main responsibility was getting to where I needed to be on time and establishing connection with clients, satellites, and production teams. It was a super cool job that took me to a lot of places I'd have never seen otherwise (2000 subway series, DNC and RNC conventions in 2000, tons of other sporting and news events and met several "celebrities"), but by Sept 2001 I was already burned out. I did the gig for a little less than 2 years, averaging about 75-80 hours/week and spending less than half my time at home. The money was good, but I got laid off around Halloween 2001. It took me a one hour lunch break to go from shock and anger to being happy it was over. The company folded before the end of the year and that was my last job in media.
