I get it now. Swallwell's point is that some people were confused when they saw the letters and numbers M-S-1-3 in the photo. They didn't recognize the photoshopped M-S-1-3 were just cues added above the tattoo images but were actually part of the tattoo onto his fingers alongside the image. When they look at that first finger, it doesn't have just a marijuana plant. They think the tattoo is both a marijuana plant and the letter M. Maybe.
