Did you guys know there will be an eclipse today?
Voltaire replied to supermike80's topic in The Geek Club
I got a half hour of the eclipse and a 50% or so blockage and then the overcast clouds got too thick and we couldn't see it anymore. We got what might have been a 90% blockage but didn't see that nor anything but off-and-on for the first half hour. At least I got to see some of it. -
Yeah, that slide is awful. It was like 'which word ending with those four letters are they most likely to choose?'

Super overcast right now, haven't seen squat for a half hour and the zenith is in 15 minutes. -

Every time I go out I can see maybe a little better than the last time, maybe worse, or maybe not at all. The clouds on an overcast day either block it or lighten a bit. If I don't see it, I can wait a few minutes, then see it again and 30 seconds later it's gone again. Being overcast makes it harder. These eclipse glasses are really dark by the way, its not like sunglasses, I can't see anything at all unless the sun is out or I shine a flashlight at them. -

Can see it now, the bottom right of the sun is blocked. It'll be an hour before its zenith and another hour after that until it's done. It's odd, we were in Chongqing China for the July 2009 eclipse and that lasted only a few minutes. -

It's really cloudy today. I saw the sun at 12:34 two before the eclipse started at 12:36, but it's behind clouds now and so I've not seen it yet (12:43). I'm going back outside. -

Can't see it from the moon, only from Earth. -

[** Official President Joe Biden Thread **]
Voltaire replied to Rusty Syringes's topic in The Geek Club
I don't know how much more mileage Trump has, but he isn't frail, can form a complete thought without a teleprompter, and doesn't walk around like a toddler with a load in his diaper. Thanks to all Democrats for nominating Biden. I was rooting for him. -
I'd initially thought that the pause at Rafah was a smart move to formulate a strategy to get the civilians out of there and back somewhere they'd already cleared before finishing up. Instead, they just bogged down for weeks and have now left. In hindsight, they should have just ripped the bandaid off and gone in, The mission would be long done and the aid trucks could have been pouring in weeks ago. Looks to me that today is day one of whatever it is that comes next. We'll see what that entails.

9 minutes of Democrats calling for DEFUNDING THE POLICE.
Voltaire replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
It shoud remind everybody of Democrats blaming Republicans for the border crisis because they won't agree to the bipartisan border deal. -
So, are we interpreting the latest development of Israel mostly withdrawing from Rafah as giving in to international pressure and not finishing the job? Or am I the only one?

I didn't like this word either btw and agree that it's more French than English.

It's pimpledoosh. Granted there's some overlap but he prefers to rant about Trump's supposed deficiencies whereas Ron prefers to rant in support of deviant sexual degeneracy. -
It's exhausting but necessary to double check everything nowadays because it all comes with a political lens / spin.

I dunno. It's definitely French.Maybe it's English. A lot of English is bastardized French since the Normans conquered England in 1066.

Wordle 1,023 4/6 π¨π¨π¨ π¨π©π© π¨π©π© π©π©π©π©π© That was frustrating. I had three letters to start then chased that last letter all over the formation without picking up any new letters to help.

It's a sad state of affairs when people alter images or other more heinous uses of deep fakes to misrepresent politicians or political actors or anyone else. Photoshopping is easy for people who aren't me. You may recall the Johnny Cash recording of him singing the Barbie theme song was funny and harmless (and incredibly impressively done!). It also really drove home just how dangerous this can be in the hands of nefarious political actors, who can make Trump or Biden or in this case Greta Thunberg say whatever it is they want.

These eclipse glasses are super strong. When I put them on, the world turns black; I can't see anything. Well, i got the idea to shine a flashlight in my face, and yes, I can see that. It so happens that I had a physical before I got transferred to Ft Hood Texas on May 10, 1994 which was the day of a solar eclipse. We all stood outside the clinic with x-rays folded over themselves 8x and looked at the eclipse through that.

In the 80s the teenage girls dressed like Madonna and it was OK to admire them for it because we were teenage boys. Now that I'm a teacher, I am expected to write them up for dress code violations.
