  3. There's a story there you do not know. He tells us he lives in East Detroit in a song. He did grow up in Romeo but he moved to Eastpointe/East Detroit soon thereafter and even wrote a song about us when the name change went down (1992) before he got famous. Here is a little known Kid Rock song from that time, set to Billy Joel's Still Rock and Roll to Me. Kid Rock - It's Still East Detroit To Me (youtube.com) The background of the name change: East Detroit still a very white suburb in 1992 and people didn't like being affiliated with the east side of Coleman Young's dumpster fire city. The first effort to change the name to Erin Heights failed in the late 80s. Along the waterfront on the east side, are five upscale suburbs called Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Shores, and Grosse Pointe Park. East Detroit/Eastpointe does not border the Grosse Pointes but we decided we'd rather be confused with them than Detroit, so we changed our name to Eastpointe. If you listen to the song, Kid Rock did not like the name change.

Bingo! If you enjoy dressing like a female hooker and twerking your ass in the faces of 5 year-olds, please stay in California.
  8. Grew up in the white trash suburbs just north of 8 Mile in Detroit, same age and location as Eminem and Kid Rock although I knew neither. Went in the Army and was stationed in Germany and Ft. Hood, Texas. Ran around the desert in a tanker unit in 1991 during the Gulf War. Then back to Detroit until the late 90s with two years in St. Louis ruining my life during the Rams Super Bowl / Mark McGwire homerun/ Red Wings Stanley Cup era. Returned to Detroit briefly deeply depressed. Then off to China in December 2001until December 2022 and should still be there except the government destroyed the private education system and with it, the school I'd built with my wife. The back to Detroit briefly through 2023 again rebuilding my life. Finally the Florida teacher certification came through but for months I couldn't get hired because the need for social studies teachers is non-existent in this state, next to zero interest. When I realized this, I switched up and got certified in math. It was night and day, everything clicked. Emails and phone calls actually got returned, headhunters showed up, I got hired immediately two days after passing the math certification test. I didn't really even get interviewed for this job. The principal's first phone call reaching out to me came with a job offer and I took it immediatly. turned down many job offers. I've been teaching 8th grade math in the Florida panhandle for three weeks.
  9. Real estate, marketing, reality TV, electoral politics, governing... seems to have a knack for success across a broad range of fields. You're right about an embarassing level of ignorance in history and civics - some things made me cringe - but that doesn't seem to have limited him. By setting aside the Palestinian problem and focusing on Iran, he found ways to advance peace in the Middle East that the experts thought was impossible. He got Europe to shoulder their share of NATO responsibility by calling them out, and he renegotiated a number of trade deals to favor American labor. And the rhetoric on those deals was nothing new, he'd already diagnosed the problems and spelled them out way back in the 80s as a guest on the Oprah Winfrey show. He took a different approach and got better results.

  11. What's there to say other than ? I wish them continued lack of financial success.... which they're socialists so that's like wishing a zebra to have black and white stripes. Maybe George Soros can save the day.
  12. Exactly. This is a flawed team and Goff / the offense is not the flaw. So long as the O-Line holds, he's as good as anybody. With Jonah Jackson out and Ragnow banged up, that may not be the case against SF. We started the year with six high quality linemen, then Vaitai got hurt and it was only five. Which... you only need five. Ragnow seems able to play through any malady at high levels but losing Jackson takes them down to four and provides a weak spot at guard. The flaw is pass defense. Our cornerbacks are horrible and quality talented WRs have been burning them badly and frequently, which other teams with quality WRs all know and scheme for. It's why Jefferson, CeeDee, Pacua, and Evans in turn all put up insane #s against us. Also, there is little pass rush opposite Hutchinson. James Houston is recovered enough that he has been removed from IR but still not there and they've not activated him. The team is still kicking though, maybe we can get him back in the nick of time. Then Aaron Glenn's scheming leaves much to be desired too. I can't believe teams are interviewing him for head coaching jobs but players do love playing for him. Please... someone take him. If Deebo can't play Detroit's CB liability is eased against SF. Then, if KC's clown corp of WRs make it to the Super Bowl, maybe we can mask it some with them because now the other teams' WRs are just as bad as our CBs.

  14. People talk about the 1991 Lions lately because that's the last time the Lions got to the Conference Championship. I remember that year, I was in the Army in Germany and due to limitations of broadcasting options and because Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet, I couldn't watch but 2 or 3 Lions games all season. I mostly just followed the Lions in magazines or the newspapers. Well, the '91 Redskins had beaten the holy hell out of the Lions in their regular season matchup and picked up only one loss all year until they rested their starters in the final week and picked up a 2nd. The Lions recovered and went on to claim the #2 seed and a first round bye that went with the #2 until recently. Then they beat the Cowboys which set up a rematch with the Redskins. The '91 Redskins beat their asses badly a second time and then went on to crush Buffalo in the Super Bowl. The best team in the league all year by far with essentially only one loss and an all-time great team. This Baltimore '23-'24 team gives me 1991 Redskins flashbacks and I don't want anything to do with them. I've been hoping somebody in the AFC would trip them up but that's not been the case thus far.
  15. And they stomped Detroit (and San Francisco both) into the dust. Thus, my logic. Give 'em back Travis Kelce and Chris Jones on a neutral field and take our chances with that. Also, not having cornerbacks worth a damn becomes less of an issue when playing a team that doesn't have WRs worth a damn.

  18. Really. I am just savoring this right now. The biggest thing to talk about in that is if Jonah Jackson and James Houston can play for the Lions and Debo for the 49ers. 49ers are 7 point favorites and the o/u is 50.5 Their O-Line is only five players. Jackson is important because all quality depth disappeared when Hal Vaitai went out for the year. Goff is dangerous when he has time but he needs an intact O-Line for that to happen. On the other side of the ball, be it Jefferson or CeeDee or Nacua or Evans, every top shelf WR puts up video game numbers against the Lions cornerbacks. Debo will be next to feast on our clowns if he can go. If not, Purdy is going to have to work with Aiyuk and WRs who aren't much better than the Lions lined up opposite them. Aiyuk is a home run threat and the Lions give up a lot of home runs but if Debo can't go, who knows. The Lions non-Hutchinson pass rush could experience a huge talent infusion if they can get James Houston back. The Vikings beat the Debo-less 49ers and the Packers should have. CMac will have to deal with the #2 run defense in the league. So maybe the task isn't so daunting for the Lions as it would first appear.

  22. What a sh*tty anti-climactical ending to a great game.
  23. Neither defense can stop the other team's O. Whoever has the ball with 5 minutes left: milk the clock and score your TD with somewhere between zero and 45 seconds in the game.
  24. You've already eliminated me. We have the same picks the rest of the way. Best I can do is second place.
