I wish corporate MSM were this fair and straightforward. You feel you could have an honest conversation with this person over lunch and disagree politely. -
How Hungary became an autocracy - a lesson for the United States
Voltaire replied to Pimpadeaux's topic in The Geek Club
Just last week, timschotel, who has been reading those same stories about Hungary, told us that Hungary puts all (hisword) it's opposition leaders and journalists in jail. I provided a link from Biden's Justice Department at state.gov (no friend of Orban) that mentioned there are no political prisoners in Hungary. Zero. "All" vs. Zero When you consume corporate leftoid media about Hungary, all you get is the corporate globalist response. Hungary remains a nice place and its capitol city is the only one on the continent you can walk around safely at night time anywhere you want. That's because Orban isn't controlled by Brussels and the Word Economic Forum types that jet around the planet. He looks out for his people and is rewarded with re-election. Orban's biggest "crime" is gerrymandering his opposition. I don't particularly like gerrymandering but it happens all over the US as well in states where one party or the other dominate. The EU and the corporate globalists can't/don't control Hungary like they can most anyplace else in the Western world so they whine about it instead. -

Gepetto is on fire to start this thread. Just awesome. Well done and on point. I'm going back in and tagging his three responses with three likes. -
Wordle 994 4/6 π¨ π¨ π¨π¨ π©π©π©π©π© Another 3x5. I don't think I spent but 45-60 seconds on this. It went unusually fast today because a third word emerged as fast I as I usually get a second. That third word, in turn, lead straight to the answer.

Geriatric Joeβs State of Union Address
Voltaire replied to Tree of Knowledge's topic in The Geek Club
Biden showed that he can still deliver a well-rehearsed long speech properly with a teleprompter. He handled himself fine with only a handful of small gaffes. The worst being that you can buy prescription drugs for cheap in Moscow. Much better than expected and plenty of points he brought up sounded reasonable, the devil is in the details though. More on that. He took cheap shots and mischaracterized Jan 6th as Dems always do. he can take the dagger allegedly pointed at the throat of democracy and shove it up his ass. The real threat to democracy is he himself and his own party, with their unprecedented legal attacks on his arch-rival and supporters. Trump's rhetoric was "Lock her Up" but he never actually attempted to lock her up. Biden does with all these assorted lawsuits filed by activist Democrats in activist Democrat legal jurisdictions and it's despicable and transparently partisan. Abortion is a winning issue for Dems, so they'll ride that as far as they can. Red states handled COVID (like pretty much everything else) much better than blue states and he's mischaracterizing this situation too. I don't know what planet he's living on about consumer confidence soaring and inflation dropping. He's clueless and can fock right off. Bringing up any sort of manufacturing work in the US is good. This was obviously a Trump priority, but Biden's been good about preventing the most corporate globalist Dems from focking it up. I hadn't kept tabs of the story, if Belvedere, IL is an outlier Potemkin village or an actual trend. I wonder what he means about family farms. I remember he had a race-based plan intended to only assist black farmers that got shot down in court. So it got improved. Capping Insulin costs and reducing prescription drug prices are solid proposals. One of the biggest gripes about Obamacare was the Dems struck a deal with Big Pharma to not oppose Obamacare by refusing to let Medicare/ Medicaid negotiate prices for prescriptions. So that's good to get rid of. The GOP looked stupid for not applauding that IMO. Rather than just owning the open borders thing, now that it's not polling well and his policy is a noted failure, he's pretending he's serious about the border and the new tactic is blame the Republicans for not supporting the border bill. So we'll see how that sells. The voting rights act is of course mislabeled. The banning books thing is mischaracterized as usual. Climate Change and guns noted positions. He has to thread the needle on Israel because he's generally been good about it but a large and vocal segment of his party are terrorist supporters. Some reasonable proposals about AI and banning voice impersonating. I mean, it was funny hearing AI Johnny Cash singing the Barbie song, and it sure sounded like Johnny, but whoever did that wasn't trying to trick us into thinking he'd ever recorded it. It was more "look what I can do" and it was funny/impressive. This technology is ripe for abuse, including both Biden and Trump as a victim of these things personally. Find a politician/celebrity you hate and have him say anything you want him to say. That's gotta go. We lose track of reality. I've generally been supportive of his efforts in Ukraine. He's generally right about Israel but I think he's trying too hard to please the Hamas sympathizers in his party by being overly critical of them. Katie Britt was wise to bring up immigration, inflation, the Dems defunding the police and coddling criminals, and Biden's being dithering and diminished. A good mix of pessimism for how people feel with more uplifting optimism for the future. The loud breathing was distraction. -
Wordle 993 5/6 π¨π¨ π¨π¨ π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¨π©π¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π©π© I've been on a long streak of carefully selecting words and being cognizant of the yellows so as not to fock up my selections with impossible entries. It's been a long time, I'm usually really good about it. But that ended, I re-placed a yellow back into the same spot on my fourth pick. So, I deserved to eat the bogey for being a dumbass.

Dont let dems fool you. Violent crime is up 75%

It was up to 75 Soros backed prosecutors as of January 2023. https://nypost.com/2023/01/22/george-soros-spent-40m-getting-lefty-district-attorneys-officials-elected-all-over-the-country/ -

It's a thing even the most left wing MSM sources have covered. https://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-prosecutor-campaign-20180523-story.html There is also a rhyming pattern in your comprehension of current events. -

There's a rhyming pattern that can be noticed across blue cities with Soros prosecutors, who are convinced that the criminal justice system is racist and are determined to do something about it. -

New York's activation of the National Guard to patrol the NYC subway couldn't have been better timed to rope-a-dope the liberals in this thread. "Ignore the National Guard's presence. Crime's way down! Trust Me! I know the truth while you guys rely on misinformation." -

Timmyβs thread for general discussion
Voltaire replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
He assures us that we're privileged, expects us to believe it, and is shocked that we don't agree. I was born in 1971, and now I'm 52 years old. I wasn't responsible for what happened in the 60s, I barely remember the 70s, and any notion of 'white privilege' has been a myth my entire life, except maybe the vestiges of growing up in a still not yet integrated working class, inner ring white suburb. -

That analogy really fits the upper middle class white liberal beautifully. -
The maternal instinct hits the smart ones too. Especially for me, as I have a brains fetish. They are hard to find, I was fortunate.

Wordle 989 3/6 π©π¨π¨ π©π© π©π©π©π©π© There's a good six+ words this could have been. Initially was looking for to eliminate three letters but couldn't think of any and was too lazy/didn't want to go to the desperation method that lead me to 'hawms' last time. I didn't see a good blow up word either. I just said 'fock it' and picked a not great blow up word... and got it. Lucky Ducky This could easily have gone five. It's what I was trying to avoid, really I just wanted a safe route to four but couldn't find one.
