And to be fair and equal, they should ask Biden "Sharks or Electrocution"?
  9. My bad on the championships. The headline said it, but "WA's first transgender high school track champion ..." and my brain just saw the first trans state champ... And I did run track and I know that, that's why at this point I have "transitioned" to prohibiting them until much more research is done and we can decide how/if the playing field can be leveled
  10. So I did a little more research on the subject this morning. This kid winning was the first time a trans athlete has won any HS state championship. Also, because of privacy laws the exact numbers aren't known but estimates put the number of trans athletes competing at less than 100 nationwide in H.S. (I don't know if that includes former girls in boys sports). Leads me to a few conclusions. The first being this is being completely overblown as an issue. There are probably more trans threads on the board just this year than there are trans athletes. My 2nd conclusion is that being that number is so few, I wouldn't be opposed stopping the participation of trans-athletes until a workable equitable solution can be found. I'm not in favor of any discrimination, but I'm also not so strident that I think we need to change the rules to accommodate such a small group of people. IMO, this is really a non-issue being used to inflame conservatives.

  14. And these are fair points that I've thought long and hard about too, straight prohibition but I don't know if I'm all the way there yet. Honestly, that might be the best solution until there is some day a fair way of handicapping/balancing the scale. Again, though, I fall back to how much is this happening right now that sweeping legislation is needed? Legislation that once enacted I fear would be hard to reverse if a time came when a real solution presents itself. And I say that because even if it was proven beyond any doubt that the fe(male) was completely equal to everyone else people would still protest because of God or stuff. I'll give you my liberal analogy...at this point doing anything drastic is like saying in 1783, everyone can have any gun they want cause for all time and we will never make any restrictions because it takes 2 minutes to load 1 shot and that will never change.* It's early and I need to know much more before I start drawing any lines. *I'm not interested in a gun control debate today.
  15. Again, to be clean, by impact - I'm talking about the total number number formerly male trans athletes competing in women's sports. Just anecdotally based on this board, I'm pretty sure I'm hearing about every dang trans athlete issue that comes up. And even if TikTok has decided to censor a video, which is their right, there are millions of outlets that will spread the news everytime some fe(male) wins an event. I said nothing about it being sporting to have a biological advantage and did state " it clearly seems unfair in most situations." I was talking about the self-esteem that comes with participating in sports in general. And please see above about what I meant for impact. For instance I played basketball on the JV team that went 3-17, we were terrible. On top of that there were only 7 total players on the team and I was the last off the bench. On team with only 7 players, 20 games for 640 total minutes of basketball, I scored 10 points. But I still learned the lessons of teamwork, being dedicated and gained the self-esteem of knowing I worked every day during that season and gave it my all the entire time. That's what I mean by self-esteem. I'm not talking any self-esteem(which would be more ego) from the fe(male) who beats her competitors by 50M. On top of gender dysphoria, a person would also be dealing with a massive narcism problem to be proud of that accomplishment. The issue that I have is that I believe sports can be beneficial to all for a variety of reasons of character building reason. I hope that someday there is some kind of equitable solution so that everyone who wants to compete can AND it's on a level playing field. So until that solution presents itself, I'm left with . That doesn't mean I don't see the problem or am ignoring it, I just don't think the solution is black or white.
  16. While there is an abundance of fast food options out there, Five Guys has always stood out among the pack thanks to its hand-formed burgers and fresh-cut, peanut oil-cooked fries. Jerry and Janie Murrell opened the chain’s first location in Arlington, Va., in 1986, naming the restaurant for their five sons. In early 2003, the family began offering franchise opportunities, and within just 18 months, the business sold options for more than 300 new locations. Thirty years later, Five Guys now operates 1,700 locations worldwide and is still expanding. But which U.S. state is most dedicated to Five Guys fandom? California leads the pack with 123 locations within its borders, while Florida and New York round out the top three. (We’re giving the Empire State bonus points since one of its Manhattan locations houses an upstairs speakeasy.) The chain’s home state of Virginia is going strong with 76 locations, and in the entire nation, only one state has no Guys to speak of (sorry, Alaska).
  17. Saw you repled, but I'm back to work, will watch video and respond later.
  18. I'm not okay with it, but I also don't have any answer yet either. The impact in sports is pretty minor(in terms of overall incidents) at this point, but it clearly seems unfair in most situations. On the other hand, the ability to participate in teams sports, learn teamwork responsibility, dedication and the self-esteem that comes with being on a team and competing are also important and I don't think it's right to take that away from people either, regardless. I think this is a more complicated than just a black or white issue, that just doesn't lend itself to an easy solution for all.

Since all of them have been broadcast on commercial stations(I believe), I don't think any of them would fall under some broad kind of fair use.

I think every single one has been---it's how the U.S. broadcasting system works(sans public broadcasting)

Sure seems, you were claiming some knowledge here of how it works. And just because you saw it happen-doesn't mean it's legal. And playing the race card..

The big takeaway as I understand Fair Use is to use something in a transformative way. For instance, if I host a YT show on editing techniques and grab a 30 second of Heat diner scene to explain the wide shot, cutting, j and l cutting---that would fall under fair use. I'm not monetizing the movie by showing the movie, I'm making money based on teaching people editing techniques and I'm using the clip to educate how those techniques are used in practice. If you watch Honest Movie Trailers, they use clips of movies and but they are making their money by making parodies of movies and movie trailers. IMO---videos like that are the ones that are going right up to the line on the fair use laws... Showing a debate and offering commentary isn't a enough---you aren't transforming the show into something else.

Raiders is now an expert on Fair Use. I work in video production and anytime we come close to a Fair Use issue, we are on the phone with an attorney to make sure we are in the clear. I have some experience with this, but live streaming someone else's content and talking over it, doesn't seem to clear the normal Fair Use bars.
